    Maximum timing advance

I agree, trying to hold it all without moving while tightening the carb linkage wasn't fun. I checked the idle rpm and set it. Held it to full advance (plugs out) while my helper cranked the motor and checked the timing. Only thing is, I wasn't able to look up to see how fast the motor was...

    Maximum timing advance

I just hope I did the whole sync and link procedure properly as the pick up timing took some adjustment also. It was set right at TDC (after adjusting the pointer)

    Maximum timing advance

Thank you so much for verifying that for me. I was 99% sure that's what it was. So I did the joe reeves method. I know other hp models of this vintage say to take 4 degrees out so it's set at 24 right now. It was over 30 when I started and seemed like it took quiet a bit of adjustment. Thanks...

    Maximum timing advance

Yea, im not sure why this factory service manual lists up to 60 hp and then the next page is about adjusting the idle.

    Maximum timing advance

I have a 1984 evinrude 115 and for some reason the max timing advance is not listed for this motor. The manual goes up to 60 horse or so and then stops. Does anyone know what this is suppose to be set at and if it needs to be backed off 4 degrees for today's fuel? Thanks!!

    Transom replacement

Thanks for the reply. I am in the process of replacing the two shorter stingers around the storage compartment in the floor now and I'm going to remove the wet wood in the bilge area and replace the wet foam back there. The stingers in the back seem pretty solid. I am really just interested in...

    Transom replacement

Does anyone know of the transom construction on this boat or similar javelin/stratos models? I'm thinking about doing the arjay 6011. If it's just in the dimensions of the splashwell, I will only need a 5 gal kit. Thanks!!

    Transom replacement

I drilled a couple holes, its wet but nothing came out. As far as I know they no longer make boats. There are some pics on the internet of similar javelin boats that the transom wood just appears to be as wide as the splashwell area. I will see if I can screenshot them and put them on here as...

    Transom replacement

So I picked up a 1990 javelin 378 fs and the floor was soft so this led me to looking into other things. Now I'm nervous about the wood in the transom. The stringers appear to be in good shape so my question is, can I remove the motor, aluminum plate and drains then cut out the top of the...

    1990 javelin 378 fs

Yea, the two short stringers were shot the other two longer ones are just fiberglass, no wood in them at all. I pulled two of the motor mount bolts (pulling engine Anyway for steering cable) and tried to shove a screwdriver in it and it wouldn't go. I agree there is more rot in there but I...

    1990 javelin 378 fs

Ok Houston, we have a boat full of wet foam and a couple rotten stringers that I have already removed. I have dug put all the wet foam as far back under the "bench seat" are as possible. I dont want to pull the cap of this thing this year but probably will next fall. My question is, if I replace...

    1990 javelin 378 fs

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yes the big plug in the middle, it unscrews with a big wing nut type thing. I have the original tolling motor too but my uncle gave me that motor guide so I put it on there. The original works and I thought it was interesting that it has a 12/24 volt switch to run...

    1990 javelin 378 fs

Haven't posted for a while (been boatless) but just picked up this old fish n ski for the family and myself. Currently replacing carpet but in the pic attached I was wondering what the "plug" is for? There's is a similar one in the dash, looks like to plug a hole for an additional gauge. Anyway...

    Outboard replacement

Thanks again for the reply. Just didn't know if there was similar situations and how people handle them. Yes, we're 3rd and 4th generation fisherman who have been boating our whole lives. We're not hard on equipment at all and neither of us see ourselves running this boat full tilt all the time...

    Outboard replacement

My understanding of the uscg plating wouldn't even include a pontoon boat because its not a single hull design. There is a guy at a local lake that holds the world record for the world's fastest tune. Hes got 3 motors on it lol. Dad is mostly worried what the insurance company will say.

    Outboard replacement

Thanks for the reply! I am going to do some research on the difference between the 90hp and 80hp evinrude models. After looking up the weight differences, the 4 cyl 75hp mercury offered in 1986 (it doesn't appear that they offered an 80hp model) is 36 lbs lighter than the evinrude 90 we put on...

    Outboard replacement

Hello and happy Thanksgiving to you all!! I have a question about my dads boat. Its an 86 tracker tx-17 tournament. It came equipped from the factory with a 60hp 3 cyl mercury motor. The motor needs a new powerhead (cracked block). So he opted to re-power the boat. He has replaced the carpet...

    Outboard replacement

My dad has a 198617ft semi-v tracker. Currently has a 60hp 3 cyl 2 stroke mercury on it. The bottom cylinder has some cracks in the exhaust port. Don't think its worth rebuilding again (this power head is a reman from years ago) so I found a 97 evinrude spl 90 hp long shaft motor with controls...

    Thermal Sensor

Quick question guys, yesterday I just got done taking the power head off my 79 chrysler 115, only to find the source of all my overheating was the brass water tube had a big crack in it. I posted the results in another post lastnight. Anyways I put the powerhead back on today and it ran cool...
