    Apollo XHS, any good?

I have a 21" Michigan Wheel Apollo XHS that's pristine. I've only had an afternoon running with my big engine and the 21" feels right. I just have not had the opportunity to run to full throttle. The Apollo seems good. Have any of you had problems with them? Is it OK for my heavy v hull...

    383 is working well

My new engine is in and enjoyed a first run on Monday. I want to thank all of you for the collected wisdom and experience that is shared in here. I'd have still been scratching my head on tons of little things without iboats, offshore only, and hotrodders .com. Here it is: 1997 Vortec...

How early in the morning make big Noise!

I have my engine out for a repair and I'm ready to run it. How early would you bother your neighborhood? It's Sunday July 3rd! Pretty quiet around here. Just me and the dog are awake.

Alpha 1 Gen II engine alignment

I aligned my engine the other day. But, when I went to install my long tube exhaust I ended up "floating" the engine to get everything to assemble. After that I spent the afternoon wrestling with my alignment. Eventually I realized I could un clamp the exhaust tubes without removing them. After...

Mercruiser 5.0 v8 water pressure sending units and caps

So it's a 1993 5.0 carb. I'd expect that year may have the warning beep system for low oil pressure, high engine temp, & low drive fluid. They are connected to the helm with a common brown wire with blue striping. If you have that system your T-stat housing would use a temp sender and a...

Weber WFB can't remove top of carburetor

My carb is supposed to have 9 screws holding down it's air horn. I only find 8, and the part is not budging. Any insight? I have only blank unused space in the spot directly in front of the choke plate where a screw is supposed to be.

    Weber carburetor setup

I am in the middle of this on my engine and I've done a lot of reading on the subject so thought this would be a good reference. Since the Webers in our boats are direct cast from the same Carters as the Edelbrocks are I think the Edelbrock method is a very good process. This is adapted from...

Probably the thousandth person to ask. A1 Gen II main drive bellows, how to?

I have manual 14 but I don't see any short description of what is the efficient way to change just the drive bellows. My drive does not use an exhaust bellows. I removed the trim sensors, inner shift cable and the bellhousing bolts. Surprisingly, the bolts came right out with a 1/2" breaker...

    Drive Paint

This topic may have been beaten to death but I thought I'd remark on a paint that gave excellent results. I used black VHT enamel on my Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2. It came out fabulous. I prepped by washing it with precleaner twice, Sanded with 400 grit to level things. Washed again with the...

How do you hook up the speedo on an Alpha 1 gen 2?

My speedometer does not work. I figure this is the right time since my drive is off and engine is out. What's the hookup? I can't see it in my manual.

I'm stoked! Started my new engine this afternoon!

Well I got it all wired & plumbed. Then put it on a run stand, I fought battery contacts with jumper cables for a while, then gave in and bought some #2 gauge cables at the parts store. Put a shot of carb cleaner down the throat and it fired and died on the first pulse. Gave it a longer shot...

Wiring 1997 Carb MCM V8 with Thunderbolt V & Knock sensor

I'm wiring my engine with the 97 harness and it seems there is an extra gray wire with a lug on it. I can't recall how it came apart and I don't have pictures, but I have a foggy memory that it's possible there were 2 gray wires to the negative side of the ignition coil. Can any one confirm...

    97 5.7 serpentine system brackets

I am installing my alternator, power steering, water pump etc. Is there a pic of the bracket locations and which bolts to use anywhere? I might have one in my phone but thought I'd ask here too.

    switching dipstick tube

I'm switching over the carb, ignition, water pump, etc to my new engine and I wonder if there's a good way to get the dipstick tube into the new block. I had a bit of an ordeal removing it from the old engine. It was a snug fit. Should I freeze it to make it shrink? Lubricate?

Pulling engine, 97, 5.7 carb, on Alpha 1 Gen 2

I spent the afternoon today getting ready to remove my 350. I have a borrowed gantry that's just barely going to clear my transom. I'm looking for a little guidance. What could I have missed? Here's what I removed. Risers & exhaust tubes Fuel line & carb Power steering lines Cooling water line...
