    Delaying winterization in North Carolina.

Guys, I know you northerners must put away your toys for the winter much earlier than most of us here in the south since in the piedmont of southern NC we usually don't get a hard freeze until January. My boat is a 18' 73 Glassmaster Tarpon with a 165 L6 Mercruiser. It's engine box is well...

Hmm, two fellas asked for this forum but...

...no one has posted yet. Oh well, I will. ;) I have been given an 16' tri-hull 84 Thundercraft Magnum to fix up or scrap. I think it will fix up nicely as the only major thing wrong with it is that it is sitting on a rusted out trailer (from failing to rinse salt water off it). But anyway...

    Mariner 60 HP question..

What was the first year of production for the 3 cyl 60HP Mariner? Mine is on a 1984 16' tri-hull Thundercraft Magnum. And what is a 3 cyl Mariner's approximate weight? Thanks, Bill

Need advice on restarting a 60 hp Mariner.

I'll soon be trailering a project boat back home that's equipped with a 3 cyl 60 HP Mariner but it has not been run in 4 years. What should I do to make sure I don't hurt it in my attempt to bring it back to life? I don't know the exact year of manufacture but once I do I will be...

Restoration project boat, 1984 Thundercraft magnum tri-hull

Guys, I can get this boat for nothing and only pay a small appreciation fee (that I choose) if I can get a running boat out of it. I'm finding out the year and exact model by this evening so you will know more. But what I have so far is this; 1984 16' Thundercraft tri-hull 60 hp Mariner...

Some pics of my 18' 73 Glassmaster Tarpon

I didn't know where readers ride pics should be posted so here are some my daughter took a few weeks ago of my boat on the lake. The boat is original, unrestored. Mercruiser 165 GMC L6. If this is in the wrong forum please move it. I run forums and understand.;)

    Any Sierra V212 owners here?

I've got a buddy that can't decide on whether to sell or fix his up. It's equipped with a 302 Ford engine that the previous owner says has a valve problem. I know, no telling what that means at this point but he got the boat for next to nothing and overall it's in pretty good shape. I thought...

Best trolling motor mount and controls for my Glassmaster bowrider?

Guys, I feel the need for a remote control trolling motor for my 73 18' Glassmaster 800 XED Tarpon bowrider. Seems some sort of hand held remote would be more suitable than a foot operated type for my boat and my needs. I don't want to sit and fish from a pedestal bass boat style seat, I'd...

How do I access trim limit switch on 1973 Merc 165?

I made the tough discovery that it looks like it's mounted outside the transom but above the universal joint area. How the heck do I get to it to replace it if necessary? I sure hope the stern drive doesn't need to be pulled to replace the switch.:% But can I not check it's function from the...

    Tach problem resolved! Read on...

Guys, I posted last week looking for a recommendation on a replacement tach for mine that for some reason quit climbing at 3,400 rpm although the engine still revved higher. I took a stab at figuring it out myself to satisfy my curiosity and because I'm about as cheap as they come. ;) I got...

Do I need to upgrade my remote control?

My boat is a 73 Glassmaster M800 XED Tarpon with a 165 Mercruiser. The original control is the old single lever chromed stick with the small black pushbutton in the side to allow engine run up out of gear. It left me stuck in forward the last time I was out on the water which is a little...

Recommend a good "affordable" 3" tach...

..to replace my original on my 73 Glassmaster Tarpon which stops at 3400 rpm even though the engine runs faster than idicated. I've been considering a Teleflex Amega. I think my original was a Sun.

Switch props to increase rpms but...

...still only got 3400-3500 WOT RPMs indicated. "Indicated" is the key here.:$ I had switched from a 13.75" X 21" pitch SS prop due to a lack of WOT rpms to a Vortex 14.5 X 19 but today on the lake I got the exact same WOT rpms with only two adults verses four on my previous test of the boat...

Replaced bad exhaust bellows, tough job but doable.

I noticed my outdrive on my 73 165 Mercruiser had a split exhaust bellows so I picked a new one up and replaced the bad one today. It wasn't hard to get the end on the bellhousing on but the other end was quite a headache. I'm pretty dexterious from working with my hands as a machinist for 30...

    Water under the deck.

Guys & gals, I've posted on the other forums about my 73 Glassmaster Tarpon bowrider not coming up to rpms and have mentioned that the engine is in top tune, hull is clean as can be beyond some minor scratches. But it only ran 3500 rpm @ WOT the last time I had her out for a run. The previous...

Prop hub numbers, what will they tell me?

Guys, I just tested my 73 Glassmaster Tarpon w/165 Mercruiser in very good tune. But I am only getting 3,500 rpm @WOT in good trim 4 adults on board. Previous owner noticed the drop in rpms but thought the spark arrester being dirty was the problem. It has since been thoroughly cleaned. He...

MC 165 HP L6 timing plate illegible....

...can anyone tell me which point on the plate is 6' BTDC, or do you have a photo of the plate. Mine is too corroded to read the marks and I cannot remember how it was on my 78 Chevy PU that had a 250 L6 in it. Need to check my timing properly. Thanks, Bill BTW, I ran the boat for the first...

Looking for other Glassmaster boat owners..

...to swap notes and stories with. Just picked up a 1973 Tarpon XED in great shap with a nice running (one owner) 165 HP Mercruiser. I'm going to put it in the water this weekend for it's first run under my command. She's all tuned, lubed and ready to go.:) BTW, I'm in the Carolinas, more or...

Alternator belt replacement on 165 MC?

I don't think I'm looking at it wrong but just what is the correct (simplest) way to replace the alternator belt on my 73 165 MC engine? Thanks, Bill

No spark on my 1954 Sea King 5.

This has been a good motor up until this season but when I tried to get it running I discovered it had no fire at all. Points & Plugs look good, coils are only a few years old as are the condensers. Magneto seems charged. What should I look for first to fix it? Plugs? Thanks,
