Where to find a solid boat

Ya, it would be nice to find one closer, thou that one is nice. And, 11 hours isn't so bad, I lived for a year in Sterling Hts MI, and drove home (MPLS) every 4-5 weeks, about 11 hrs door to door.

Where to find a solid boat

It all depends on where you are located - a quick check brings up a nice SS 16 in Hayward, Wis - an '86 that has been sitting for a while.

    My first StarCraft

That S/N fits right at the start of 1971 on the list I keep of other Starcraft boats, as does the glass windshield and bow rail that is tappered down. I have 978027 that is reported to be a 1970 and a 992140 a 1971.

    My first StarCraft

Welcome and nice boat. What is the S/N on the rating plate?

    I’m back

Agreed, very cool boat. Need more pics of her. Where do you plan to use that boat? That looks like a Mille Lacs, LOW or Superior boat.

    Just a few guestions

A mystery - fun. Do you know the S/N that might/should be on the rating plate? That would provide some hints. I keep a list of S/N's, the earliest is 418950, reported to be a 1966 (but not confirmed). If "MC" is Michigan, (I would have picked Neb from the posted chart and comment but) - how...

    There you go, nice boat.

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

That is a SN, not HIN, and it falls on my list as a '70, my guess is a Seafarer, either 14 or 16 or it could also be a mariner-V or Star trek-V- BTW - I just looked at the '71 catalog, the molded "Starcraft" attached to the rear sides has a solid black background, different then the black...

My new to me 1970 18' holiday

OK, the repaint comment makes the swoosh make sense. The plate you posted matches another I have that's listed as a '68. (that I posted on the other post) The lowest '70 plate I have is 913316, so I suspect yours is a bit older than '70. The steering, we have the same steering on our '70, not...

My new to me 1970 18' holiday

Something is strange here, that is the older steering style, early 70's?, but that swoosh is '78/79. Do you have the a pic of the SN plate?

    Old StarCraft - HIN

This matches another plate I have, 905058, that I suspect is a '68 build. And GA's comment about his starting with a "66" to represent the year also matches one I have, that I questioned until GA's post - 69 25849

'74 Holiday 18 Restore Mod.... Convert to open bow.

We have that bracket/style on our '70 SS 16, it's always been a bit "loose", IMO, if you can upgrade to the newer system you will be ahead.

    Old StarCraft - HIN

Can you post a pic of the rating/Sn plate for my collection?

    Old StarCraft - HIN

Being a "data collector", I have a list (and images) of SC S/N's over time, the earliest is 418,9xx listed as a '65 TBD, more reliable numbers are in the 90x,xxx starting in '69 and running to 1,043,xxx in 1973.

2021 Starcraft Splash of the Year Vote

Congrats to all 4 guys, outstanding work by all 4. This was a tough vote, and pics with fish are just no fair. :) Good luck to all. Dan

No HIN on my recently purchased Starcraft

I don't think it's a SS version, I suspect it's one of the smaller fishing models. Measure the width and check the catalogs, that should get you close.

jeep's aren't known for good MPG, and with these changes, a 1/2 ton pickup will likely get better mpg than the jeep. (though with this large a boat, I'd use a 3/4 ton truck) Dan "I sure hope not, the TJ is already terrible on gas even pulling nothing! Had a few pickups and never really liked...

A Chief 25 ...... I see a truck in your future. :) "The Chieftain 25 seems to fit the bill perfect being probably the largest we could go and still be light enough to tow it with a Wrangler."
