    198x SS-150 rebuild

Got the second coat of primer on, rolled out just as easy as the first coat.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Rolled on the first coat of Tremclad primer today. I was going to do a roll and tip, but as it turned out I got better results just rolling a thin coat on and going over it until the lines were gone, only ended up using the single 4" foam roller for the whole coat. It came out quite smooth for...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

The weather wasn't perfect, about 29C and 78% humidity, but that was within the parameters of the Rustoleum SE primer so I managed to go through my whole list and got the whole exterior hull done with the first coat. I used every drop of 4 spray cans, and there's a few light areas, but I have...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Got the 2nd coat of JBWeld in all the pitting, and got it all sanded smooth. It's time for paint, so my plan for tomorrow is: Hand sand the whole exterior with 180grit to knock off oxidization. I also have to do a bit of JBWeld sanding around the rivets where I couldn't get in with the random...

You can leave it here or ask a mod to move it, they don't like duplicates though.

    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

Great boats, make sure to post over in the Starcraft forum with a few pictures once that's working again. I'm a new guy myself but I'll try to answer some of your questions. 2. For rivet info check out the rivet sticky by Watermann. 6. The plywood sounds good for the transom, but most use...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Got the bilge painted white, picked up the SE primer ($24.99CAD a can, ugh), and started filling in the extra holes on the consoles, and got the boat flipped. This week after work I will finish the second coat of JBWeld in the pits, then sand, clean, and tape for paint the week after. I did use...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I think all the bending during the cleanup and Coat-It application tweaked my back, so I mostly took yesterday off, although I did get a final leak test of that slowly dripping bow seam done and I'm happy to report that this vessel now appears watertight! Next step is to flip and finish cleaning...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Kept on going during my week off, managed to finish cleaning up and gluing the foam, I picked up my paint, and today I applied the Coat-It. I did go with the Tremclad Rust Paint, although I made a last minute design decision at the store and will now be doing the top in Tremclad medium blue...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Got after it again today and managed to get both consoles and the splashwell sanded down and cleaned up for paint. The PO used 3/4" for his shoddy floor replacement, so to accommodate the extra height he bent the hell out of the bottom of the consoles. There was no way to recover it, so I cut...

Repowering 1972 18' Starcraft SS Advice

If the floor was bad I would check the transom wood too, especially if you will be putting a new, heavy, 4 stroke on there, but if there are no leaks then I would say it's worth it. That boat is in great shape, and looks like a quicker turn around on your repair then a lot of us here!

    198x SS-150 rebuild

So I'm on vacation for this past week and next week, then back to work for a week, then another week off, but despite all the free time I'm continuing with the slow and steady approach to this project (mostly because I'm a bit lazy lol). While waiting for my Coat-It, which is now being delivered...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Replaced the floor bracing and managed to get the inside of the transom skin painted, I used Rustoleum SE primer, then Tremclad primer, then 2 coats of Tremclad in white. I didn't bother with hardener or rolling and tipping, this is just to help protect the once-full-of-holes-but-now-patched...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Been a hot minute, but I'm still around and my painfully slow progress continues! I got a bit discouraged last year about no riveting partners and the resulting lack of progress, so that plus the weather in Sep meant I just picked away at a few items and then packed everything up for winter...

    New Journey

I actually kept the bar that the rollers are on and just bolted the board to the top of that. My transom will be about 18" back from my cross member and I wanted to make sure the 2x4 bunk was supported as far back as possible due to the engine weight. No bunk bracket required and the bunk is...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Due to a pantry makeover project that I started this weekend (and is still ongoing) I haven't gotten too much completed, but I did get the two new patches on from the leaks I found and then did another leak test. With only the bow seam still dripping slowly I was ready to move on, but it turns...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Roger to both, no 5200. Does Coat-It seep into seams like Gluvit? Coat-it is 30% cheaper and materials on this project are adding up.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Oh, sorry, I think I didn't explain well. I wanted to do 5200 on the outside of the seam where the bow keel plate meets the hull sides (see picture below, there is also something already there like that, not sure if from the factory or a PO), but then use gluvit on the inside of the seam. If I...

    1966 starcraft 18ft holiday restoration

Wefco makes a rubrail, not sure about a 66 model but a lot of the Starcrafts use profile 101G. http://wefcorubber.com/PDF/marine/Rub-Rail%20Inserts.pdf I think for decals it will have to be new ones.
