    Any 2017+ Nissan Titan owners?

A Titan should tow as well as his Ram 1500. A 19' Chaparrel especially with the small mercruiser, not a big block V8, should not cause anyone weight concerns with any brand of full size pickup.

    Any 2017+ Nissan Titan owners?

I do not own one, so take this however you choose. As a mechanic we work on them in my shop, which gives me no reason to warn you off buying one. All brands, and all models of vehicles break, that is just how life goes. Certain vehicles though break down a lot more than others, and from my...

Are surge brakes always a PIA?

Nothing to add, they gave you great advice already. Get it repaired, there is definitely a problem if you keep getting air in it. The biggest problem I have with surge brakes is backing up on soft ground, or uphill, and then the Need to put in the lock pin so they are not applying while backing...

2 cycle oil for my garden tools

Technically that is correct, but unless your engine was already tuned to run very lean, that small amount of gas less shouldn't ever cause a lean burn melt down and hole a piston or seize it. 50:1 and 40:1 is an insignificant amount less gas in the engines air to fuel ratio. If tuned that lean...

2 cycle oil for my garden tools

The KISS theory, Keep It Simple Stupid. Even my motorcycle that technically asks for 32:1, I run it at 40:1, and if it needs a piston and rings a little bit earlier than it otherwise might, they are easy to replace some Sunday afternoon. They also make a little plastic containers you can buy in...

Author with research question about boats

Agreed, my Lund would not be easy cutting with a knife, more of A Husqvarna chop saw sort of deal, my previous boat was a Princecraft, that was a tough boat as well. Well used in the 20 year I had it, sold it still in pretty good shape despite the 1000 beachings on gravel, and numerous bumps...

    Oil mixture

I've always sort of assumed that most people talk in American gallons, or liters. Very few people nowadays use Canadian aka Imperial gallons. I wish that everyone would go to the metric system, it's so much easier.

Upgrading to a 50 hp Tiller

I truly appreciate your help, but still plan on upsizing, the bigger cc engine size will not only up the hp twice, but should add a healthy amount of torque. While I have no numbers on the amount of torque increase, it should be ample to allow for it to easily get up and plane. In the beginning...

Upgrading to a 50 hp Tiller

I have to go pop the cowl off again for another look to say for sure, but I don't think so. Would like to go up more than 5 hp as well though. It was my own fault for impulse buying the special price deal at the boat show. It looked like such a nice package, and I do like the boat, trailer...

2 cycle oil for my garden tools

3.2 ounces of oil per gallon, is 40 to 1 ratio. It really won't hurt your 50 to 1 items to run on 40 to 1 premix. I premix all my 2 stroke gas to 40 to 1, then run it despite whatever something asks for. You may have to change a spark plug slightly sooner, but not harmful, just a little extra...

    Oil mixture

And when mixing I like to put in a little gas if the tank is completely empty, then add the oil for the amount of gas you plan to add, then pump the rest of the gas in as quickly as the fuel pump allows, it helps mix them.

    Jet boat comparison

What sort of rivers? Around me, river running will mean bouncing off rocks, gravel bars, and running in barely any water. So here a jetboat is a Bratt, Firefish, that sort of thing, made of tough aluminum, and a plastic bottom, powered by a V8 and typically spinning a Hamilton Pump. So define...

    Starter help!!!!!! Omc cobra 4.3

If the mounting flanges on the new starter are thinner, you may have to cut the bolts off. I suggest running a die down on the bolt first, if you don't have a correct sized die, at least run a nut down on it. Then cut it off as smoothly as possible, and spin the die or nut back off, this helps...

    Treated Lumber for Bunk Boards

Have you ever considered synthetic sundeck boards? On my old trailer I used the plastic planks that most use on decks. Please note they are thinner than regular lumber, so if the hull of your boat just clears the cradle now, it would hit it then, you could also go two thick if needed. My...

Author with research question about boats

Had 3 boats in my life, and 2 were/are small aluminum ones. Yes they have a very easy to remove plug at the back, low down, centered side to side. If your character were to just reach over the back of the boat, hand in the water, it would be easy to locate by feel, no need to see it, flip the...

    DIY water pump/Impeller 1st Timer

Anything that might look like a Phillips head screw, probably isn't. Invest in a good set of JIS screw drivers, so you aren't chewing them up so badly, that eventually your unable to remove them at all. This is one of the biggest rookie mechanic mistakes I see.

    A Bit too far

WTF was the driver thinking? He just kept backing up needlessly. I like stopping when my boat still needs a little bit of a push to come off.

    Not what was expected....

My little boat is attached in 4 places, solidly to the trailer every time we go anywhere.

    135 mph 7 sec quarter

Very impressive indeed! My boat is tragically slow.
