Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

Ok yeah, I know when I asked last year everyone said to do it. I’ll watch some videos see if I can do it myself.

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

Oh very nice. I appreciate that. I’ll want to do the impeller before I put it back in the water. Hasn’t been changed it probably 15 years (although it was only used for like 3 summers during that time. I have a temp gun and temps stayed around 140 F at the hottest part of the engine so I...

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

it stays on Lake St Clair in Olympia which isn’t too big. If I have to paddle home one day it won’t be the worst thing to happen haha. Should I be concerned with all of these connections? They all got wet even though there was a cover with a gasket over them

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It wasn’t running when it sank. Does that mean that the starter is likely fine? The battery was dead when I got it out of the water so I don’t know if something shorted and the points were “on or active” while it was under water. I got the control box apart and much as I could and have a fan...

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

We had heavy rain here in Washington. It’s a summer house and I don’t go there but a couple times a week. It’s been rained on before and never got close to going under so I wasn’t worried about it.. wish I had been . I have it running again this morning. It sounds pretty good (video attached)...

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It was submerged for probably about 8 hours. Was running for 30 minutes enough do yall think? I rev’d it up a few times. I can go out there again today if need be. It’s about a 30 minute drive. Again, thank you all so much. I would not have tried to start it right away had it not been for you...

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

Massive amount of water came out of the spark plug holes at first. Like a squirt gun each time I hand turned the flywheel.

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

I’m not sure if it was water or fuel that came out of the bowls.. possibly a mixture. I let it run for 30 mins with the hood on then took the hood off to let out any moisture. I would have let it run longer but I need yo get going home, work in the morning

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

I also just sprayed a bunch of Power Tune in the carbs and cranked it over with the spark plugs out. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to get the carbs off and then back on. I don’t have gaskets and I’m sure the gaskets will need to be replaced if I take the carbs off

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

I took the cover off the front of the carbs. The drain plugs don’t seem to be accessible without further disassembly

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

Ok. Looks like I’ll need to take the carbs off. I started doing that already

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

I’m not sure how to drain the carbs. There doesn’t appear to be drain screws under the bowls

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It’s out. Going to take it back and try to get water out of carbs and cylinders then start it

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

I’m concerned about trying to start it if the starter isn’t completely dry. I’ll take the plugs out and crank by hand to get water out of cylinders

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

1974 Evinrude 70HP. This was my dad’s boat and he passed away 2 years ago. I’m devastated. I’ll be able to get the boat out of the water - I’ll have help in a few hours. Once it’s out what can I do to save the engine. Thank you

    1973 70hp Evinrude water pump

From what I can tell all of the areas that water comes out of when I run it on muffs are underwater when it’s in the lake.. doesn’t have any telltale unfortunately. I’ll just keep checking the temps every time I go out. We have a place on the lake and it’s not a huge lake so there’s no chance...
