    Fuel pump issues

This forum is great. Found the switch. It was previously bypassed and had recently corroded off from inside the connector. I stripped them and connected together and it started right up. So went to the marina to get the switch to put it back together correctly. Was told just to connect the wires...

    Fuel pump issues

Ok. So if I’m understanding this corrrctly I should read no voltage with the key on not running at the pump. I get 7 volts as I’m cranking it over so it drops. I gotta remove the exhaust from the port side to check out the oil pressure switch. Before I go that far is there anything else I should...

    Fuel pump issues

Agreed. And he was warned. I’m not a volunteer though. I’m getting paid for my time. I’ve basically rebuilt my entire boat so I’m familiar with a lot of the systems. Mine is a good bit newer though.

    Fuel pump issues

I tested the power at the harness with the pump disconnected. Key on 9 volts. Before it shut down the pump pressurized with the key on. Now nothing. Thanks for the diagram. I’ll trace the wiring back.

    Fuel pump issues

So I’m helping someone with their new “free” boat. It’s a late 80’s model with a merc 350 with the thunderbolt v ignition and gen one alpha one drive. I can’t read the serial number anymore. Problem is that it started pretty readily after a tuneup and fluid change. Let it run a bit and it died...

Mercury wear pads missing cause of vibration?

Sorry. Been away. Alignment was checked last time the drive was off with the proper tool. Slid in and out perfectly. I have so far bought an almost complete set of tools to work on this boat. Lol.

Mercury wear pads missing cause of vibration?

The vibration is only when it’s in gear. Plugs and wires are all pretty new as well. Motor sounds good. I’ll check them anyway though.

Mercury wear pads missing cause of vibration?

So for the moment I’ve got everything working as it should on my boat. Merc 5.0 mpi with an alpha one gen 2 behind it. My question is that at low rpm in gear the boat has a slight vibration to it that goes away with a little more rpm. The drive is a new sei marine unit but I’m pretty sure it did...

Where is this water coming from?

I was advised to add some rtv sealant around the rubber stopper edge and reinstall the top cap By the tech guy at sei. Looks like it should be good to go. Thanks.

Where is this water coming from?

So I found another post on here from 2017 with the same problem and the fix was to pull the top cap and seal with FTv seal and around the hole with the plug in it. Someone also suggested removing the plug before sealing it all up. Does this sound like a good solution?

Where is this water coming from?

I pulled the drive back already to be sure the o ring was still in place. That’s all good. If you are referring to #16 in the diagram that is in place but possibly leaking from there? This is a new unit from sei with 0 hours on it so hopefully it’s not going to need to be sent back. Does water...

Where is this water coming from?

Pulled the top cover and there doesn’t appear to be any water in the drive oil. Guess I’m pulling it off tomorrow and checking it out. I’ll call sei as well. This is fresh out of the box so I’m hoping I did something dumb and can fix it myself

Where is this water coming from?

Coming out of the top cover. New upper unit. Just installed. Good flow through the motor but there’s water coming out of that top cover.

Appreciate the help. I’ll get this replaced and let you know if that was this issue.

    Ignition wiring questions.

This is what came out of mine. No glass but the rest looks the same. Came out in corroded pieces.

    Ignition wiring questions.

I was testing for voltage above the fuse. Didn’t realize it was even down there. Had voltage at the alternator post and the breaker on top of the motor. Both the wires that come from the fuse. There is no continuity through the fuse now that I’ve got it off the starter. That’s why I’m confused.

    Ignition wiring questions.

Ok. So now I’m at the 90 amp fuse. Pulled it off bc it was terribly corroded. Took it in the shop and cleaned it and tested it. No continuity. How could I have had voltage to the wires above it if it’s not showing any continuity. Any thoughts. I’m of course going to replace it before doing any...
