1990 Sea Nymph SunCruiser 24' - max engine size?

the weight of my 2021 Merc 115 hp, CT is 363lbs...... My pontoon is an '06, 24' , twin tube, 25" diameter tubes....the pontoon came with an '05 merc. 60 hp, 4 stroke......so I used 4 stroke weight in the max rating... Max rating is 115hp..... the motor also costs $11,000+.....

    Progess Made!

his boat is a nostalgic boat also....he's not looking for speed....we're looking for opinions on what size motor will be able to put him on plane or not.... from people who are doing the same......

    Progess Made!

    what speed do you expect from that 25?....I've got a friend who has a mid 60's aluminum, 14' v hull . Came with a 40hp later 60's merc (a 401?).... He thinks he needs/wants a 40 4 stroke.....too heavy, I said.....I think the a 25 4 stroke ....maybe even a 20....would be perfect.... as long as it...

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

what I needed was a 4 blade, 14x13....and it has to fit my CT gearcase diameter.......so It seemed at that time two years ago one did not exist... It does now appear merc has a 13.8x13, 4 blade.....but what I have now works for my purposes....I still have the 4, 14x14..... The 4, 14x12 maybe...

better to be at the low end or top end of RPM?

I propped my pontoon for the higher end when not loaded so that I wouldn't lug the motor when tubing and loaded down... so my 3 blade 16x12 did cost me some speed over my 4 blade 14x14...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

or #of blades, etc....not denying that.... But it probably will affect his rpm to the point where he has to start all over again with the propping regimen..... ...tell him what enertia prop he needs, maybe it will be the holy grail and he won't have to return it and try another one....

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

remember...when your trying to get more bow lift....your pushing the stern down...against the plane....it can be tweaked, but it becomes a dance with speed, trim, and the end result..... everyone uses different techniques for trimming for speed.....a neutral feel on the steering wheel....Or...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

so now there's rake, blades , diameter, pitch, motor height.....I should've added cupped props in addition to all the others...good luck.... ....remember, your almost ,if not, there I disagree...trim raises or lowers bows....props can help with added bite...but you can only raise a bow so...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

well, max manufacturer engine rpm is 6200, you say...every engine has a max throttle operating range ....so I'll take a guess that min rpm at max throttle is around 5200 (my 2021 merc is 5000-6000 at max throttle). So operating range wise, your not lugging the engine with max throttle and 5800...

    Hours on motor

mercury stores that info in the ecm...which can be viewed if you have smartcraft or vessel view instruments. Or computer scan (dealer) I assume yamaha has the equivalent capability...

    Smartcraft gauge questions

it's been a while since you responded so I thought you were done. So, I was going to take pics of my setup to show exactly what I have. I will try to do that. There is a long blue cable from my engine to and under my console. I think there is a separate cable from that to my tach....but,I...

thanks...I was using predictwinds.com....noaa.....marine weather etc... now it's gonna be wed.....the tide info is appreciated, I'm assuming a 3-4 knot flow is standard and wed. is probably the same?.... once again, not approaching this lightly.....

    ok..prop experts...?

boating isn't for me?......sigh.... thanks, but jeez...it's just a curiosity....it's not a concern.... I wouldn't of spent $8000 on a new 115 hp merc replacing the 60 so I could pull teenagers on tubes if I was concerned about consumption.... ......I'm not racing down the chesapeake...I'm...

    ok..prop experts...?

so, at 4000 rpm...I get 3.5 gph, 15 mph.... just wondering if the 4 -14x14 would improve any of the other two if boat is set to one........
  16. J

    ok..prop experts...?

That's not what I asked I'm NOT propping for anything........I asked a specific question out of curiosity....that's all..... I've already "propped" the boat.....

    ok..prop experts...?

ok I'm attempting a chesapeake bay trip from the northern section to annapolis tomorrow. I am running my 3 blade, 16x12 on my 115 hp CT motor right now. I can excede my max rpm with this prop when not pulling tubers or loaded down....just two of us... I calculated fuel burn/ mpg last year for...

    Propeller

like everyone is saying...what is the max rpm now? On my 24' twin tube pontoon with my new 115 ct merc,, they put a 4 blade 14x14 on it...max rpm was 5800 but with teen age tubers and others on board, especially when turning....My rpm's would drop to 5200+/-.... So, I stuck a 3 blade, 16x12 on...

    chesapeake blue angels

my calculations say 3.5 hrs per leg. I ran fuel burn/rpm/mph test last year on a calm lake....tabulated it...and have it on my boat. I have smartcraft tach and gps speeds. Fuel burn was confirmed... sorry, this was the full response...my wifi kicked off after typing and wouldn't load...

cruise speed is 10 mph....no hurry...the boat traffic is my prime concern, being inexperienced in that manner....I know the rules, but , like you say, it's the other guy, which I do not wanna be..... ok...good stuff to hear from experience...I'm adventurous, but cautious ...
