Interesting Learning about Regal Dash Wiring.

I just installed a new GPS speedo. I flubbed the first try. I saw what I thought was a spare purple B+ wire, so I ran it directly to the speedo. Oops, This was the feed at the trim gage which fed the rest. So all other gages had no feed, including the tach. No start. No Faria speedo self check...

    In dash GPS speedo?

Yea, my pal bought a generic in-dash GPS speedo to replace his kaputt pitot. I told him prepare to be humbled. ...he's always been a bit of a wind bag topper, so I reckon he'll still lie.

    In dash GPS speedo?

I agree. ...you or someone else mentioned this above. We're 100% on the Mississippi river. Always current. If I want to split hairs I can drift and get my handicap . ....This time of year about 2-3 mph. Either way it will be better than the original pito speedo. It shows 20 mph in the lift. When...

    In dash GPS speedo?

I just received this Faria Beede GPS speedo from one of their retailers. Faria tech help was great. I sent a pic of my dash and they gave me the correct model. I'd picked the wrong trim but they set me straight. Cloudy day, so I'm going down to the lift to install this.

How to tell a replacable hub prop

Good to know, and thanks. I favor Solas props. ...in my price range, and seem to perform beyond their price. I purchased two as an upgrade to the VP prop that came on my new SX drive. ...thinking I missed the boat on the Rubex option since I can only put one prop at a time on the drive. ;). Good...

How to tell a replacable hub prop

From what I know each prop manufacturer has their own loose hub design. I don't think there is much interchangeability. Our Mississippi River boating eats props, so I generally use aluminum to spare the prop shaft. I once bought a loose hub prop since the replacement prop is less expensive than...

Does VP go nuts on revisons and models vs. Mercrusier?

Previous 25 yr old boat was Merc 4.3LX/Alpha II. New boat is VP 4.3V5/SX. I love the simplicity of the Alpha drive. I'm fully tooled for any repair. But the VP 4.3 had too many advantages over the Merc 4.5.: GM based 4.3 vs homegrown Merc. Closed cooling, VVT, high pressure direct fuel...

How do I Stop Loosing Bearing Buddys??

This is my first thought. Some sizes are w/in .030" of others. A correct size BB requires a fair amount of heavier tapping to seat. ...interference fit. Check the chart in the link below to verify your size: https://www.bearingbuddy.com/model-selection

Merc Alpha style prop nut retention for VP SX?

Merc Alpha Gen II for 25 yrs. VP SX for one yr. I prefer the Merc prop nut retention system. You'd think a simple SS cotter pin would be easier. Not for me. I carry a spare wheel and locking hardware in the boat. Now I need a needle nose pliers. ...same prop nut wrench as I used on my Alpha. I...

Are wheel locks the way to go?

I swing my folding trailer tongue back, wrap the safety chains around it and lock them together with a long Master lock. Defeatable, but a little more hassle for the thief. A friend has the lock that @JASinIL2006 showed in #5 above. This looks good to me.

    Hole shot, or up easy?

Torque stress on the drive is at its worse on a hole shot for sure. I've been aware of this. Past boat had a 4.3 LX 180 hp pushing and Alpha Gen 2 on a 2300 lb dry boat. I wasn't too worried since my pal had a 350 mag pushing a heavier boat in front of the same Alpha which I resealed and saw no...

    Hole shot, or up easy?

Understand. If I have passengers they are in the back bench....never in the bow seats. So a slow acceleration means more time with the bow blocking my vision. ...another reason I get it over with quickly.

    Hole shot, or up easy?

I've had plenty of power in the boats I've owned and driven. So when it's time to get on top of the water I dump the throttle and get up w/in a few seconds. ...old habit from pulling skiers up I guess. I observe many boats from our river house clearing the no wake and getting on a plane. Many...

    2005 Rinker Captiva 192 - should I stay away

Ditto to @alldodge. That 4.3 is about at it's limit for that size boat. But it should perform fine with a lighter passenger load. At rated load it probably will take more time to plane. The price seems fair considering the shortage of new and good used boats. But it wouldn't hurt to test the...

How to secure floating dock with Pontoon Boat

Not knowing the tree positions I think you've come up with the best solution. Get lines/ropes long enough to wrap once around each tree. Connect a hook or carabiner to the end of the line, and secure the other end to your dock. Wrap the line around the tree and secure it with the hook, etc...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

The promise of Ficht DI was lower emissions with no unburned air/fuel mixture going out the exhaust during the scavenge stroke, and better fuel economy from the more discrete injection. I don't know the fatal flaws with Ficht, but I reckon advances in ECU technology have fixed these. I'm a...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Three of my sis's in law have places on the same 260 acre lake. Two have pontoons with smallish O/Bs .....35 hp. They only putt around the lake with neighbors/friends on cocktail cruises. All have 120V extension cord power for their boat lifts, so charging wouldn't be a problem. I doubt any of...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

This outfit has at least one prototype. It uses up to four conventional 12V batteries. As with a gas boat, battery life is a function of throttle position. I text chatted with the principal guy. The drive is a submerged axial electric motor with a planetary reduction drive...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

State of art Tesla battery technology is around 10 lbs per kWh. One gallon of gas = 33.7 kWh, or 34 lbs of battery. 1 hp = .75 kWh. As we all know, planing boats are power thirsty. The rest is simple math. .....I'm thinking it will take a bit longer than next year for speed boats.

    Check your furnace filter

Filter boxes are available in a variety of sizes. Your return may allow one to be inserted, with some modifications. A trip up into the attic sounds like a pain to change a filter, but less painful than what you just went through. Possibly there's a more accessible location in the main return?
