    1988 85 hp Force outboard

Darn, wished you had post on how to drain LU oil before attempting it. Anyways, I don't think you have damaged the LU yet. But now you will have to drop the LU and remove the water impeller and also the cover for the main drive shaft access to see the shifting unit. It can still be done but like...

Force 50HP running with cheap Honda 5 Pin AC CDI.

Very Interesting. Well, if you can make this work it'll surely be a welcome news for Force owners since original CDI's are just like you said very expensive.

Prestolite Timing. Center Mark = 30 degrees? 50HP

Because some of these old motors flywheel markings were actually on vinyl tape, most of the markings were long gone. So most mechanics did is to mark the flywheel permanently. Most do have three permanent scribes or at least two. One mark is the TDC, the 2nd mark is either 28/30/32 degree mark...

Congrats on your repair, now you have a better knowledge of your motor than ever. Enjoy!

Force 50HP running with cheap Honda 5 Pin AC CDI.

The main concern here is the operating voltages/temps of the Honda CDI. Do you happen to have the "White Paper" that lists all the operating characteristics of this CDI?

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

So your best recourse for now is to remove the fill plug and then lower the tilt and trim all the way down. Standby for excess fluid from the fill hole. Then you can replace the fill plug and hopefully this will fix the problem.

    85hp force tilt unit

Your best recourse is to take a look on an actual 85HP with a built in T&T system and take pics. On *bay you can actually find a full T&T system for sale for Force 85 HP motor. And yes, even those for higher HP like 120 and 125 or 90 HP motor usually uses the same T&T systems as long as they are...

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

I see. This is with the assumption you used the correct type of fluid and that you did not overfill it. You can actually overfill the system if you try to top off the fluid while the tilt and trim are in a out position. Make sure when you top off the system, both tilt and trim rams are in full...

    Bet up by a 1998 120hp force

With the reed blocks dismounted, using a bright flashlight inspect the crankshaft cavity for any debris that may still be lingering around. And yes, the original reeds were made of high carbon metal. The new ones or after market ones are usually made of porcelain/metal alloy.

1994 Force 120HP tilt and trim questions.

For a starter, check the source of the noise using a mechanic's stethoscope. If it is coming from the motor, it could be worn out bearings from the motor. If it is coming from the pump it could be worn out o-rings. And finally, if it is coming from the rams, it could be a bend shaft.

Does this timing advance rod (1985 50HP) look factory? Should it be bent like this?

That undoubtedly is the not the original rod for the timing tower and and cam advancer. That is a "jury rig" by the previous owner. Although, it seems to work but I don't think the linear motion of a straight rod (original design) will have the same amount of linear motion of a bent rod like...

    85hp fuel mixture

Well the manufacturer's manual states, "50:1" fuel oil mix. Why the original owner decided to use 100:1 is beyond anyone. Could it be he is a mechanical engineer who knows better than the manufacturer's engineer? Or is he trying to cover up for something that is wrong with the motor that if you...

Force 50 HP. Rain got in key switch. Wires smoked. Now Cranks but No Spark.

Looks like you're on your way to finally getting this repaired.

If you have gone this far to dismount the reed block, you will be better off replacing the gapped reeds. It is not advisable to bend back or even turn them over as this worsens their longevity. Reeds flaps a thousand times a minute and a weakened reed will break in a very short period of time.

Force 50 HP. Rain got in key switch. Wires smoked. Now Cranks but No Spark.

Well, hopefully you considered the clearance between the magnets and the coils as this is actually very little. Otherwise, the magnets could rub against the coils and end up with a catastrophic damage to the coils or magnet.

Well that's good news. Hope that glue stays on which I believe it will the only question is how long?

A thin film wouldn't hurt but I normally do not use gasket sealant not even on the heads.
