    Diagnosing trim gauge issues

Probably should start your own post so you can follow up and not confuse the issues for others. But If it bounces all over the place, the contacts in side the puck could be gummed up. Have taken the covers off, pulled the center part out and cleaned the contact surfaces and reassembled. Will...

Topping off a compass, what to use?

HAHAHA. He was confused and mixed big Navy compass gimbal bearings with compass fluid for a small compass. I got what he meant.

How do you guys mix Gas

Depending on where you are, be sure it jives with the gal/ltr readout on the gas pump..... May be confusing if the pump and mix jug don't match.

    Trim Manual

Are speaking of the drive trim, or the trim tabs? Or an exotic drive trim system. Don't recall ever seeing a "controller" for the drive trim, just the pump assembly controlled by a simple switch on the helm.

    trim tabs or not?

I assumed he had a B1, since it wanders bad. My current boat is a B3 too, and has zip for wander.

    Unknown Short Circuit

OK, thanx for the clarification. I got it. I said starter instead of ignition. Have seen fuel pump prime functions that bypassed the oil pressure switch during starting installed in some applications. Power to the fuel pump is maintained, through oil pressure switch, once oil pressure builds...

    trim tabs or not?

Not difficult at all, but kind of un-nerving for a 1st timer to drill holes in transom. Measure 15 times and drill once. I really liked the dual ram Sport tabs. Made my Chap handle like a completely different boat. The 16's made small adjustments quite effective. The auto retract when ignition...

    trim tabs or not?

They might be OK, but I am under the impression they work well on smaller boats, not so much on larger / heavier ones.

    Unknown Short Circuit

Blocking diode is like a check valve. Only allows voltage to flow in 1 direction and blocks flow in opposite direction. Hence why it is used on the fuel pump circuit. Allows starter circuit to power fuel pump, but once started, blocks the ignition circuit from powering starter solenoid, after...

First Start of the year and High Oil Pressure

Super high oil pressure sure sounds like a stuck oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump, from sitting over the winter. Is the oil in the engine fresh oil, or last years? Maybe a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the engine oil may help "unstick" it. On the alarm.... low oil pressure, low drive...

    trim tabs or not?

I had a Chap 2550 SX Sport with same problem. 7.4 with a Bravo1 and would wander something awful at low head speed. Added Bennett 12"w x 16" L Sport tabs( with the dual pistons) and the bow wander completely stopped when tabs were full down.. Number 1 best add on to that boat that I did.

    MerCruiser 5.0 MPI diagnostic connector

My main concern would be the fuel smell in the engine compartment. That is how majority of boat fires / explosions start. Can't blame a flooded carb, since it is MPI.

Converting to Electric over Hydraulic this week

Last update. Bled brake system using a mighty vac pneumatic operated pump out and a brake bleeder tank that keeps MC fluid tank full while bleeding. Took all of about 45 minutes and about a quart of brake fluid to completely flush out system with new fluid with no assistance. Works far better...

    Diagnosing trim gauge issues

Trim indicator in full up all the time indicates an open circuit (bad sender or broken/disconnected wire somewhere) or a bad gauge. On back of gauge, with power applied, short the "S" terminal to ground. If it goes full down, the gauge is good and your problem is in the wiring or sender on...
