My lame attempt at an instructional video

http://www.youtube.com/v/AGxMgtogdt8 I put the cap back on the glastron and video taped it the best I could, and then edited it down. It's the most horrible thing I've ever done to video I think, so I'm going to make another attempt, but for now.....let the eyes and ears BLEED!!!

    Flapper disc sanding idea-no itch!

I was thinking about how I can avoid itching like a dog with fleas when I start getting into my boat again. I'm going to go the flapper route for the really bad "grinding" phase and was thinking....what if I were to wet sand? If I had a decent drain going, I could let the water run right out...

    Uh oh....dog clutch?

So, I was out with the 25hp Johnson on my 14ft Bluefin with the kids today....think I mucked something up...in the muck. Lost a bobber in the shallows, the electric trolling motor was on the blink and I used the Johnny to get me in there...without putting it into shallow drive. Soft muddy...

    Any worth to these?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/boa/775008694.html I don't have a use for them, and don't have the space/money to pick them up on a whim, but it seemed like a good deal. Are my instincts on this good or bad? Just a question from the curious.

    Waxing after painting

What's the consensus here on waxing after painting with marine paint? I can't seem to find anything that indicates what amount of time is required to wait before a person can apply wax to a freshly painted boat.

    Painting without a garage

How am I supposed to paint my topper in my back yard without a thousand flying insects getting stuck in the paint? This is going to be a problem as this is a test run for when I get around to painting my boat ( hopefully next year )....

    convert to single axel?

I'm wondering if it would be worth the trouble to convert my trailer to single axle. The tandems that are on it now have good tires, but the bushings are going to need to be replaced at some point or another, and frankly....it's a pain to move this boat around unless I use my truck...not...

Trying to help a friend with a 40hp Mariner

1991 Mariner, but no controls. Need to know what year controls work ( he has tilt ) and what he needs to hook up the control cables to the motor ( how is the cable for throttle and shifting secured to the motor? ) We are trying to find the right controls for this. So far, we got an older set...

    quicksilver controls

I have been looking, but can't seem to find out how I can repair a set of quicksilver controls that have a cut electrical harness. It's cut about a foot after the controls, so I need to rewire the whole thing. I saw wiring harness' on one site I found, but it was all part numbers, no pictures...

    drain plugs

A question I've been pondering for a while has me wondering that the consensus here is on drain plugs. I'm aware of 3 different types. The Garboard style plug ( screwed in from outside the boat ), the rubber expansion type, and the plastic style with the anti siphon ball w/plastic tab to keep...

    lower unit output shaft play

Long story short, I picked up a small rock last year and it got wedged between the skeg and my prop. Took a nice ding out of each ( last time I'll even think of running the motor in that shallow of water ). Anyway, I've been doing my spring inspections and noticed that I have a very small...

    Uh oh, I don't know...

The glastron just may have to go...this seems to be a really good deal to me...I could fix one of the two motors and get my money back.... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/boa/654063933.html

    Bad block seal causing hiccup?

Hey all. I've been working a little on my 25hp Jonny ( 1990 ) and rebuilt the carb this winter. I'm getting a backfire and fuel pooling in the carb along with an idle that doesn't seem to want to change unless I just about close off the low speed circuit completely. Anyway, I'm getting the...

    1975 v179 dash

I broke mine taking it off, any suggestions on what to replace it with?! I'm sure I'll have a hard time finding a replacement that won't crumble...I wouldn't mind retrofitting a newer styled dash, but don't know what would work the best...or am I better off just making my own custom dash ( a...

    engine hood choking engine?!

1972 'rude 100hp. Long story short, bought the motor used- it didn't run right in the lake...ended up being a loose wire on the points system. Ran great in the water once it was firing on all the cylinders, but then bogged down. Water pump was replaced and got a good stream from the pee hole...

Oil coming out of pinhole on lower unit

Just below the cavitation plate. Didn't leak before, but lower unit was just off for impeller replacement. No visible traces of water in the lower unit oil. Are we looking at a bad gasket, seal or ??? Not sure where the oil would be coming from specifically internally.

Value? Anything to look out for?

Looking at a 1973 100hp Evinrude on Saturday. The guy is asking for $500 without controls. Initially it looks like a clean motor. What can a guy reasonably expect to see/find on a visual inspection? He says he can test compression for us, anything over 100psi and even across the cylinders...
