    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

Absolutely and positively nothing like the exhaust water jacket in your videos. What I have, with discharge water introduced to the far right NPT fitting at bottom and then to the flapper and transom hull thru fitting: What you show in vids: Water introduced at or before elbow. Ain't no...

2023 NFL - Super WIldcard Weekend

Poll: How many pick-6 will Dak throw on Mon nite? I vote - 2. Buffalo vs fish. Going with Buff. I want to see an underdog make good for once. Buff deserves some love this winter.

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

I don't think I made my self clear, trying to cut corners. When I say 'have no gears' what I mean is I 'have no gears'. Where a cam with long duration and close lobe separation may make big power, it will be quite peaky, and not have good mid range power. This is fine if one can get the...

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

OK, I got a few pics from the FG repair guy today. I can't link them yet, as they are from a text on a phone, need to download them. He's got a lot of work done, and is ready to install the tank. A few more support bits, and I'll have the tank in, and connected. Then we can close up the floor...

What do I need to do to paint a fiberglass boat

I have at least 11 painted boats over gel coat in my past. I ran a refurb shop in Needles CA, and would repaint Schuster, Kona, and other jet boats regularly. It's also easy to touch up when they go over sand bars. Using the steps exactly as written, latex will last many years. Believe it or...

Let the first liar say they have never done this.

BTDT. Then, handed the rod to my 7YO daughter who was eager to cast. Clearly, we did not get any nibbles until I fixed it.

What do I need to do to paint a fiberglass boat

Well, this is a pretty big subject. First off, you have a FG boat with a gel coat finish(pretty sure). Gel coat is NOT waterproof. It actually absorbs a small amount of water, and that keeps it from cracking. Which means, if you use a latex paint, you'll be ok. If you want to use an epoxy base...

    '75 24'5" Slickcraft Cabin Crusier

The old toilet was of the 'pump and dump' kind. Several mfgs, Jabsco, Rule, etc. You don't have a vac-u-flush, so you can use any type of older marine toilet you want. The only good news I have for you is Slickcraft built a pretty stout boat in the 70s. However, I would guess like others that...

    Spark plug heat range

Plug heat range is one of a dozen parameters for engine design. The proper range of plug was determined by the engine designer when the engine was first built. It's not a good idea to change it very much from that value unless one is modifying an engine significantly. The plug must heat up to...

Found my stolen boat! Wiring nightmare, no fire

I don't rely on Pertronix for marine applications. Points are simple, and easy to fix on the water. Have a spare point and condenser in the boat. Pertronix are good for other missions like a tractor, which rarely goes very far or fast.

Found my stolen boat! Wiring nightmare, no fire

You have a closed point reading of 80 to 180 ohms. This is far too high. You may file, or replace the points and condenser. This is almost certainly why you have no spark. There's likely no need for a new VOM, the one you have seems to be doing just fine. After filing or replacement, do the...

Found my stolen boat! Wiring nightmare, no fire

The first part of my post wasn't done. Remove the black or gray lead from the neg side of the coil. Pull the high tension lead out of the coil. Set your VOM to it's lowest resistance setting(20 ohms). Touch the red meter lead to POS, touch the black meter test lead to NEG of the coil. Record the...

Found my stolen boat! Wiring nightmare, no fire

Yeah, Scott makes a point. Coils are pretty robust. They usual failure mode is under heat with the coil breakdown internally. I would look for some wiring, or other stray path. But first, start with the VOM, and verify you have ~12V on the coil neg terminal. I'm not one to advocate just...

Found my stolen boat! Wiring nightmare, no fire

If you have 'power' to the negative side of the coil, that's a problem. "have power to both positive and negative side". Use a VOM and measure the resistance of the coil leads. the neg side of the coil leads to the points which complete the circuit. Either the coil has a short internal, or there...

    Computer Illiterate?

Let me try to help a bit. We'll take them step by step. 1. Although you may not be USING Edge, I promise, it is running in the background and tracking every thing you do on the computer, and making notes on sites you visit, and depending on the settings may scan and keep email addresses. All for...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

So, like myself, you see the flaw in her plan. I would guess that being Dec, they don't have many people out on their boats late on Fri afternoon, but sure - it could happen. We decided to stay in our spot for now. We had a lot of ducks congregating on our pier, and the walk was a bit messy. I...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Sounds like the type of setup I'd be interested in finding. I've heard there are a very few private slips for sale in my area. I might inquire further. And, brother I hear ya about hiring decent help. It's become nearly impossible to find someone who will actually show up and work a full day.

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Got to the marina late Thur night, had a good night on the boat. Today, I went over to the office to inquire about moving to a different spot. Hours are 10-6 with an hour lunch break. Ofc is locked up at 11:10. Too early for lunch, and no note on the door. Back at 2, still no one there. Back...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Funny you brought this up. There's language specifically in the contract declaiming any responsibility for emergency pump out, or even notification of a boat sinking. So, I asked the girl at the counter, and that said that if someone reports a boat taking on water, they will call an emergency...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

I have a crew of guys trimming and cutting trees in the yard right now. He said '$900', I said '800, and I will cut the bigger logs once the tree is down safe, and the branches are ground, and cleaned up.' He said ok. They are doing quick and good clean work. I'll tip them $100 for a 3 man crew...
