    They should have the bevel. When stapling on carpet, cut a V on both sides and it will fit right over the end. It looks to be good wood. No need to replace it. Just cut a few inches off the front end until the center of gravity makes it tilt backwards.

    We had a 99 GTX and had so may issues we (stupidly) traded for a 2001 GTX. Both 2-strokes. More stupid we traded for a 2002 4-tec. And then 2 more (a 2003 and 2004) for our kids. Finally traded for a 2015 Yami High Output. Problem solved. Easy maintenance, better fuel economy, etc., etc...

    I won't run without a mirror. My current one was a clamp-on mount and I felt it was not secure enough, so I drilled the windshield frame and mounted it rock solid with small SS screws. Very slight blind spot, but slight head movement corrects it. Sorry, can't remember the manufacturer.

    That looks like a 1940's vintage Johnson. If so, chances are that the coils are still good. As long as it isn't stuck and you dress the points, it may start right up. At worst, maybe a carb cleaning.

    My 5 HP 4-stroke is mounted so that the lower unit is in the proper position. It will propel a 3500 pound bowrider at 6.0 mph. Enuf for me.
