1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

See?! Iboats has a wealth of useful information provided by its users Here I've thought the cranks were the same, they are not Find yourself a decent 302. It's a solid v8 that should provide years of good use

1998 Mercruiser 3.0LX Delco EST Ignition Cannot Enter or Exit Base Timing Mode

If the ignition only runs at idle with the timing at 20-25 degrees btdc then the issue is either the firing order is incorrect, the tune up components are of an incorrect/inferior quality, the fuel supply has an issue or the engine mechanical system is faulty Funny story, had a 350 sbc rebuild...

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

One next to distributor is the oil pressure switch for the audio warning system. The two wire switch near the oil filter connection is to power the electric fuel pump

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The only compatible components between a 351 windsor/cleveland are the pistons, crank and associated hardware. All other components, block, heads, cam, lifters, intake, water pump, etc are specific to the respective engine

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Advance would probably be okay, ford's are pretty forgiving in that regard and can handle over advanced timing to a point. Think gm 454, which can handle gobs of advance, like high 30's to low 40's no issues. Aside from the 3.0/2.5 gm the 454 is my favorite marine engine Selecting the right cam...

Alpha One Gen 1 - Can't get 6" on shift cable adjustment

This is a nearly impossible achievement. Much humility is required to achieve such status and few have the patience required to handle all aspects of boating life

Gauge Identification / Testing / Replacement

My guess would be the lowest quality vdo gauges You'll be better off replacing them. There is little chance any company can repair them

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

If the long.block you source is from a truck the cam (if oem) ought to be of proper spec to suit your needs I love ford products, I tell random strangers on the street how great ford products are without provocation. Unfortunately ford has never had as significant a presence in the...

Need Ideas/Advice/Removal of Broken Upper Vertical Shaft Bearing.

Absolutely You need a decent quality hydraulic press, a bearing splitter tool and proper mandrel. I use an OTC bearing splitter, works amazing for the job you need to perform

procedure to manually flush non-running 4.3 engine?

I think it's okay you believe engine blocks, primarily gm do not suffer from salt water destruction. I do believe this as well That said, it's the accessories and lack of routine salt water maintenance that causes engines to fail within 5-10 seasons Number one failure I've seen is via the...

    Trim gage not working

I routinely replace mercruiser trim senders without drive/transom assy parts removed It's actually easier with the drive installed I'm a mechanic and I never dream about repairing boats, they are all nightmares

    Changing remote controls?

The controls work, they're just junky. Have zero complaints from the customer This is just my observation regarding the controls. I operate many boats in the 18-40 foot classes so I have a decent grasp regarding the quality of replaced components Good luck with your setup

procedure to manually flush non-running 4.3 engine?

You own a Wednesday package, and that's awesome. Keep it sound and it will continue to perform until it doesn't I've worked near the west coast and in my current area I routinely see saltys brought up from Florida (mainly) that the owner "couldn't pass up such a sweet deal" to get a boat. Many...

    Changing remote controls?

Reason I asked is one of my customers has the same brand remote. It's for twins and a binnacle mount. When I gave the boat a proper shakedown I remember thinking the controls have obviously been replaced and the new setup is garbage Fortunately he doesn't use the boat very often, I belive he...

procedure to manually flush non-running 4.3 engine?

I'm in fresh water, have been for a majority of my life/career. I would love to see recent (2023) pics of any salt water marina/harbor that contains at least 50% 30+ year old raw water cooled engine/boats that are turn key operable

    Overheating

Cook You perform your own maintenance but rely on a repair center for "bigger" jobs, correct? Unless you have fair witness of your sea water pump in the drive you're relying on someone else's opinion On this note it's imperative to note this forum is not an avenue for information regarding...

procedure to manually flush non-running 4.3 engine?

Ya dude, congrats on the longevity of your old salty. It's neat, but can confirm your situation is unique. Simply because one old cobra 4.3 has survived (with I'm guessing constant observation/repair) does not include the other guessing between 20,000 and 37,000,000 other cobras out there...
