Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Only dumb question is a question not asked. As for the controller, it can be mounted on a flat surface. Generally seen on top or the console next to steering wheel. SHSU

    New (to me) boat owner

I have a 1974 Evnirude 70. The nice thing is I can do all the repairs on it. The newer ones with computers/fuel injection can't usually be fixed by us garage grease monkeys. That being said, I am with you on wanting an new outboard. Would love to have a 90 hp on the back of mine. SHSU

    New (to me) boat owner

Do any water tests? Always good to know how many leaks you might have and if your bilge pump is working. Also make sure all your Nav lights are working and you have the appropriate emergency equipment on board for signaling and such. You never plan to use it, but always good to have when...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Yep, so guessing both are undersized/powered for what you are trying to do. You should be able to over flatten a rivet, as it appears you can't think you need some additional muscle. SHSU

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Guessing you hammer isn't hitting hard enough. Can you over buck a rivet or once you get the "V" that is as much as you can get? SHSU

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Taken from a website: When properly squeezed or driven, the shop head of a solid rivet should be one-half the rivet diameter in height and 1.5 times the rivet diameter in width. https://www.kitplanes.com/best-practices-solid-rivets/#:~:text=The%20optimum%20length%20for%20a,125%20inch%20or%20...

    My Starcraft

We have all been there. LOL I projected the project would take 2-6 months. 2 1/2 years later we finally splashed. I painted, but the polished aluminum hull of @classiccat is amazing. SHSU

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Admiral and I redid the entire boat, so we needed a good rivet gun. Plus I went with a 4X so I could do 3/4. Pretty sure below is where I got mine. https://www.yardstore.com/riveting/pneumatic-tools/rivet-guns/surplus-pneumatic-rivet-guns SHSU

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Couple things, 1. What kind of rivet gun do you have? A true rivet gun or an impact from Harbor Freight/Equivalent? I tried the Harbor Freight, then an Amazon Special, and finally a used Aircraft Rivet gun. It would have been cheaper if I had just gone to the used Aircraft Rivet Gun...
