Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom

Re: Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom This is how I lifted it out. I used the 2x4's as leverage and pried up adding more as I needed to. I worked from side to side until I could get it out by hand. My beagle was happy I got it done. He barked almost the whole time because he could...

Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom

Re: Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom First I would use the chisel to get under the nail. Then I would use the pry bar to pull it the rest of the way out. Always being careful not to damage the transom cap. Some of the nails I could pull out by hand. I drilled out the rivets on the...

Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom

Bought our little SS last fall. When I met the seller he told me he put in a new floor, and the only thing wrong was a bad lower unit on the outboard. While examining the boat he pointed out that he reinforced the transom where the motor clamped at the top. He also said he sealed the splash well...

How do I disconnect the steering on my Chrysler outboard? I have a manual ordered but its not here yet, and I'm wanting to get started on replacing my transom. Also where is the best place to lift the engine from, or can I just use tow straps or something like that with my cherry picker to lift...

    My Admiral Needs Your Prayers!!

I want to start this out by saying I appreciate all the support the people of this site have given us over the last few months in our many " new to boating " experiences. Last night my beautiful wife suffered a major heart attack and had to have emergency surgery to have a stint placed in...

1988 Stratos 2000xls In too deep!

Ok sports fans here we go!! A little history first. My wife and I decided to buy a boat last year so we could have some fun on the water with our friends and our 14 year old boy. We did some looking at pontoons, bowriders, and cuddy cabins and runabouts. We decided on a bowrider and looked for...

Look what I found in my carbs!

My engine hadn't been running smoothly. I guess now I know why. This came off a 75hp Chrysler. 1981 model I think. I cleaned all three bowls and carbs just to be safe. I also added an inline fuel filter between the fuel pump and carbs. Hopefully this won't happen again.:embarassed:

    Which outdrive do We have?

Re: Which outdrive do We have? So if it is a standard cobra then it can be replaced with and SEI drive when it fails correct? We're getting ready to restore this big beautiful boat and the outdrive has really had me freaked out about investing so much on the restore. New floor, stringers...

    75hp Chrysler lower unit swap?

We purchased our second boat last Thursday. It is a beautiful 1982 Starcraft 16 footer with a 75hp Chrysler outboard. The lower unit is shot. Had a mechanic tell me that Force lower units would work. He said the 85hp and 125hp wouldn't but others ,70hp, 75hp, 90hp, 105hp would bolt right up. The...

    Help at the boat ramp.

I've read several posts on here about bad experiences at the ramp. Thought I would pass on some good ramp behavior. The lake I go to has several public ramp options for the modern boater. There are always plenty of inexperienced people trying to launch or retrieve next to the experts. I think...
