    Best hitch protector?

@dingbat Re Waterford. I do a round trip from Albany to Waterford frequently on my e-bike. It's a 32 mile round trip that follows the Mohawk Hudson River bike trail the whole trip and it ends in Waterford for me. Right now there are hundreds of boats along the way on the river as it's the...

    Best hitch protector?

Wow, you are like the first commentor to my original question that "actually cares about security here" 👍🏻 A lackadaisical attitude on boating security furthers the thieves knowing a quiet boat launch parking lot or a hotel after boating is easy pickings. Worse, is insurance policies carry...

Ya it takes me 30 seconds each trip to put the boot on and off . . . You do you 👍🏻

    Best hitch protector?

We trailer our rig around probably twice a week to any one of 10 different launches along the Hudson River, Mohawk River, Lake George and the 123 mile long Lake Champlain (which has many state launches on both the NY and Vermont sides). Over the 50 years I’ve lived in upstate NY Textiles used...

    Best hitch protector?

Please post a pic of your vehicle! I’d like to see if I’d walk by it as a thief if I’d botther to see if you left it unlocked 🤣. I live in NY probably not considered the safest state in the country.

    Best hitch protector?

I have them on my ebikes and luggage but I need potential prevention BEFORE stuff is gone. Tracking is useless after the fact when you get back to a launch and boat is at the dock and your trailer is gone. Watching it traveling down the road on your phone is not as good as taking security...

Props are the easiest thing to steal. Just remove the cotter pin and remove the prop nut (they are usually just hand tight to line up with the cotter pin hole in the shaft) with just a pair of pliers and poof . . . $250 prop gone.

Always have carried insurance. Cheapest thing you can buy for boat protection.

I'll have to measure it. Boat is in a garage across the street from my house. I'm pulling it out today to work on it though. I know this discus style Master Lock won't fit as I tried it yesterday. Hole too small.

Qestion on pre-treating this hole in the aluinium transom?

Title reposted with spelling corrections (thx a lot Siri) Question on pre-treating this hole in the aluminium transom . . . Looks like this forum only allows edits for a brief time period??? So I have this hole for the past few seasons which is at least way above the water line and now I'm...

Qestion on pre-treating this hole in the aluinium transom?

Before I would do that I'd bring it to a body shop and see if they can replace the back of the transom. This is the only place on the boat that has a few spots where the paint is bubbling. My guess is it's due to some type of galvanic action? It's also around any of the hardware like the...

looks good, but won't fit in the coupler hitch hole on my smaller 16 foot trailer.

    Best hitch protector?

Haha, we trailer all over. It's not which launch, it's the druggies the happen to view a launch as a "mid-night" auto store. That reminds me now I need a lock for my SS prop too 😜 Something like this for an unhooked trailer "has to be" stronger than just my cheapo brass padlock. But this one...

Ya I just posted that pic from Amazon reviews as an example of how bad the Rhino brand locks are in that any Rhino key will work in another Rhino lock. I almost went for a Rhino until I read that! I have a swappable stainless ball (uses a cool sliding pin inside the ball) 1-7/8 or a 2 inch...

Qestion on pre-treating this hole in the aluinium transom?

So I have this hole for the past few seasons which is at least way above the water line and now I'm seeing probably the wood of the transom through it. So I'd like to finally address it. I bought this expensive stuff (like $92 for a 1.8 lb can from my boat dealer) called Gluvit. It's a 2 part...

    Best hitch protector?

Ya, does anyone really think this is security. It's what I've always used and a twist with a screwdriver and pop! I just tried to use a decent lock and the hole in the latch is too small. Sure I could drill it out bigger, but it would probably weaken the coupler.

I actully do use tack welds. I went to my welder and had him tack weld my pricey trailer crank onto the trailer right after I mounted it a few years ago. I avoided buying an electric model as I know how long that would last. This is New Yawk and if it ain't somewhat secure, it's history...

    Best hitch protector?

I’ve used a brass padlock for years. But bolt cutters or a twist with a screwdriver or a steel rod and the lock is gone. As to all of the above comments I’ve mentioned it in my original post. My trailer wheel locks came today. Just put two new tires on the trailer and 4 new tires on the SUV...

    Best hitch protector?

I’m looking to thwart off the thieves a little. My rig is small 15 ft aluminum on a trailer that they would love to steal for jets skis, dirt bikes etc. I have to leave my car and trailer in sometimes desolate launch sites. I already use a tire lock. But I’d like something to protect the ball...
