    7.4 L29 idler/tensioner grenaded, issues?

Hey yall, just a dumb question... Took the boat out with friends to finally see how the kids did in a tube. Went real slow since they're young. I wound up paying attention to them and making sure they were doing alright and not the boat. She started sputtering and died and I saw the water gauge...

    7.4 MPI Stalling wont idle.

I had a surging at idle an backfiring above 1600rpms issue as well. Check your rail pressure. I only had 28psi. Was most likely the pressure regulator but I wound up replacing the pump while I was down there as.well.

    1999 7.4 (L29) only hitting 3400RPM at WOT

I did up to about 2000rpms and it does advance

    1999 7.4 (L29) only hitting 3400RPM at WOT

Manual states 8* at 1800rpm. Wire wasn't disconnected, its jumping pins a and b on the connector for diagnostic hookup. I did replace the line from the tank to the filter, the fuel water filter itself (twice), and the anti siphon fitting. I did not replace the pickup tube (looked fine, screen...

What would I use to check that....and where would I check it?

    1999 7.4 (L29) only hitting 3400RPM at WOT

I'll try to get a friend out and go kidless to check. Checked timing and it is advancing. Again, just at lower rpms but off base timing it does jump up. When you say fuel system vacuum your just talking the vacuum line running to the pressure regulator? According to other owners should do...

    1999 7.4 (L29) only hitting 3400RPM at WOT

Ignition was in base timing with pins jumped on the dlc connector. I didn't check at wot (kids with me, didn't want to wot with earmuffs), but setting base timing it was 41psi at 1800. 1999 230 bowrider. According to the searay resource page, it should be a 26 pitch prop set and hit 4600rpm.

    1999 7.4 (L29) only hitting 3400RPM at WOT

Hey y'all. Bought a 1999 sea ray that ran but stumbled and misfire. It also surged and wouldn't hold idle. Since I had some free time in the spring I was able to do some work. All new as of this spring: -Siphoned old gas. The previous owner didn't run it last year and the gas was at least 2...

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

I was able to find a possible image. Looks like the wire might be to the distributor (purple/white) and grey shows possibly the throttle position sensor. Would the boat even run if the tps wire wasn't attached?

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

Thank you! While I'm here....electrical question. Went over everything with a fine tooth comb I have 2 plugs that terminate in loops (looks factory). Both are at the back of the engine. One is a yellow w/ black stripe and black wire. That terminates with a white loop plug. The other is a...

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

I there's 2 relays on the port side of the motor, under the plenum cover. Is one of those the fuel pump? Would it be beneficial to try to replace them before launching into the cool fuel?

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

You said 43psi running. Would that be the same as key on, engine off? Kind of hard to get a reading right now

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

Yes, it's the l29. Is the regulator mounted on that cool fuel assembly as well? If so, I think I would preemptively do both since the assembly looks sandwiched between the block and stringer, directly under the engine mount. 🙄

    1999 7.4mpi fuel pump issue?

So im chasing a rough idle and misfire. I bought a boat thst was in decent shape minus it running rough. It had bad gas in it, so I siphoned it out, replaced the feed lines to the filter, filter and anti siphon valve. Looked over everything and replaced the cap, rotor and coil. Went to set...

    mercruiser 7.4 (L29) firing order

Gotcha. So when replacing the rotor it will only sit correctly in 1 position? Then just make note of which point is #1 for my specific engine, file it away.... and never be able to find it again. Lol

    mercruiser 7.4 (L29) firing order

So once I get #1 on tdc and get the new cap and rotor... Can I just set the rotor to get #8 at the rear most point? Also, instead of that jumper plug, can I just use a wire to jump the 2 pins to set initial timing?

    mercruiser 7.4 (L29) firing order

Gotcha. Looks like I'll be waiting till my cap and rotor get in, then finding tdc and going from there.
