    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Here again, I'm afraid. Found various problems, and fixed them. But still not firing up. Compression good (150psi on both cyl.). Spark gap test good on both. Spark seen at both spark plugs. Flywheel key good and in place. Spark control rod set at correct spec. (2 1/2"). Sprayed Seafoam into...

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Updates to the thread. I believe the problem is intermittent. My tests on swapping round the spark plug leads should not have led me to believe that they were O.K. So, I'll replace them. I can revise my resistance readings for the coil; primary windings - 0.4 ohms; secondary windings- 235 ohms.

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Changed a lot of things, but I haven't changed the spark plug leads (HT leads). Does anybody know what specification and length of lead I need (I think 9"). The 2 on my engine are different lengths, and different ages. And what resistance should be shown on a DVOM, so I can check the new wires .

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

I have 2 coils. When either one is installed, I only get spark on the upper coil, no spark on the lower coil. I replaced the power pack after trying to start with the new coil. Could a bad power pack have damaged the coil?

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Tried with new power pack. Same result; spark is good on the top coil, no spark on the lower coil. Swapped the plug leads around, same result, so it's not a problem with the leads. Moved the power pack leads to the coil around, still no spark on the lower coil. So I'm thinking; leads to the...

Sea **** recommendations for marine toilet discharge

Hello all. I've got a stuck Blakes sea **** 1 1/2". If I can't unstick it, I will need a replacement , but I can't afford traditional bronze fittings. Can any cheap alternative do the job. Osculati seacock with check valve is very cheap, but I'm not sure it could do the job.

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Will replace the power pack. Have I fried the coil, or should I keep the newer one installed and try starting after only replacing the power pack?

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

My engine is BJ50 BELEDS. I have a long standing starting problem, I think it's the electrical system. (Compression is 150 on both cylinders, spark has been intermittent on top cylinder, and not jumping a gap of 7/16" at all on bottom cylinder). Tried to check most wires and components (I can't...

!996 Johnson 50hp 2-stroke. No fuel through choke.

As I said earlier, before I took off the primer unit off, no fuel was coming out of the little hoses. Now, after my little bit of work, there is fuel coming out as it should. I think the primer fault is fixed. Time to put the water muffs on and try starting and running the motor

!996 Johnson 50hp 2-stroke. No fuel through choke.

Before I removed the primer unit , there was no fuel coming out of the primer hoses, on the manual or electric setting. Fuel is seen going into the primer inlet hose. Removed and opened up the unit. At first, no flow ( air) along the inlet hose. After removing and refitting the gasket, I have...

!996 Johnson 50hp 2-stroke. No fuel through choke.

I've had a real problem starting the engine for a long time. Would crank but not fire up. (sometimes would fire and start when I turned out the air/fuel mixture screw about 6 turns, but I can't run the engine long at this setting) Checked Woodruff key (good), spark (good), compression (150 psi...

    !996 50hp 2-stroke tilt tube/ cylider pin stuck fast

Yes, so I'll have to buy that slide hammer and adapter. Anyone know the thread size of the drilled pin? And yes, I was reading the parts directory wrongly, I can see the cylinder pin marked now that I've had another look.

    !996 50hp 2-stroke tilt tube/ cylider pin stuck fast

Hello all. I'm trying to replace a broken manual tilt assist system with a power trim tilt assembly. A big problem right now is I can't get the cylinder pin out from the stern bracket. I've tilted the engine up high, and just have access to the port end, where I could push the pin (won't move) ...

Installing power trim/tilt unit onto 1996 Johnson 50hp outboard

Racerone, thanks for your reply. Done a bit of researching, and I think the engine model that the tilt unit came off was made for the Australian market. No parts diagram found for Johnson AJ 50 TL CEC. But I think my tilt motor is the 3-wire type. Will I have a problem wiring this up to my newer...

Installing power trim/tilt unit onto 1996 Johnson 50hp outboard

My tilt/assist unit broke. I finally found a power trim/tilt unit from a 1989 model which I believe will fit. I have the hydraulic unit (397532, I think), and the motor (432226 ). That's got a green and blue wire connected, and a black wire is attached. What other electrical bits do I need to...

    johnson 50hp 2-cyl, 2-stroke, 1996. Motor cable assembly connections

Update with corrections; Looked on wiring diagrams, and parts list. The connector I am worried about is the 5-pin connector connecting 4 wires from the stator to the power pack. the broken/lost wire is , I think, the black/yellow wire, coming from the cable harness. Picture attached

    johnson 50hp 2-cyl, 2-stroke, 1996. Motor cable assembly connections

Hello. My electrics at the engine area are in a real mess. I could buy a replacement motor cable assembly, and then plug in the 6-pin connectors to the corresponding ones on the long cable harness going towards the bow. My problem then comes with what to attach to the other ends. In particular...

yamaha 2hp 2-stroke idles fine but dies at higher revs

Thanks all. Yes, fuel delivery was the problem. Took the fuel tap/filter off sprayed sea foam into it, then soaked in washing up liquid, then soaked in clean fuel, then sprayed again with sea foam. Problem solved. Does anybody know a good setting for the air/fuel mix control. (how many turns out...

yamaha 2hp 2-stroke idles fine but dies at higher revs

I've just looked at a replacement fuel tap, and I'm thinking maybe a filter is incorporated in the assembly. How should I clean up the assembly, before splashing out on a replacement?

yamaha 2hp 2-stroke idles fine but dies at higher revs

Thanks, mike-i. I didn't find a fuel filter, or a primer bulb. The engine dies as soon as I increase the throttle. Gas cap has been loosened. I should change the fuel tap (on/off) directly under the tank. (It's very old, very stiff to move, but I don't know if this could cause the problem) Richard
