    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

Next up was epoxy for the top side of the floor. I actually got the bracket mounted in between epoxy coats (gotta take the help when its available lol) but pictures of the bracket will be the next post :friendly_wink: You can see how the 45s step up area turned out. Should be pretty seamless...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

After the knee braces were installed and more coats of paint were going on the transom bracket I got the 3rd piece of floor down and all the screws and joints filled in. I planned for the bilge area cut out to be small enough so the knee braces would be covered. I also had the angle gussets of...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

After all the holes were drilled I got going on the paint as well as installing the knee braces. The knee braces are lag bolted into the stringers. Jason had made a nice new laminated beam so its nice and beefy. I also lag bolted it to the transom but aligned it so that a couple of the...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

Got the bracket back and went to work lining it up and drilling holes. I did a lot of measuring and remeasuring to come up with the height. So hopefully I got it right. The outboard hole pattern was already drilled in the pod when i received it so i used that as a reference to get the...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

After the console work I was still waiting to get the bracket back so closing back in the area of fuel fill runs was up next. Making 45's seemed to be the best solution as rerouting the fill and vent lines seems like too much of a headache. Glued and screwed in and I had some Durhams water...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

For the new top i just traced it onto a leftover piece of the 5/8 plywood, cut it out with a skill saw and jigsaw. Sanded and beveled all the edges smooth. It got a couple coats of epoxy and then paint to match the rest of the console. The glued it in place. Some lead weight to hold it...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

So last fall I had used the previous Mariner for a few months before starting the rebuild. One of the things that bothered me was the height of the steering wheel and throttle controls with this particular console setup. So i wanted to raise up the console to a better height for me. This is...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

Next up was some console work. I stripped everything off and used Marine Tex to patch all the holes, then prime and paint. The top of the console had a lot of holes that i left as is, I planned on just cutting out a new top piece for it.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

While the bracket and knee braces were getting welded I started putting the floor in, I wouldn't be able to put the last piece of floor in until i got the knee braces installed. 2by material was glued and screwed to the original floor and the plywood glued and screwed to it. Also painted the...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

After sitting around staring at the transom and outboard pod I had decided to add a full width swim platform to it. I drew up the design along with plans for the knee bracing and dropped it off to a buddy to weld it up. 3rd and 4th pics - the knee braces and C channel backer in orange are...

Also while the coats of spar were getting done on the floor I prepped and painted the Rude. I'ts a 95 175HP V6 looper.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

While the coats of spar were drying I finished getting the remaining part of the seat boxes off. Sawzall and oscillating tool did the trick, but I will say Jason's original build was just about bullet proof. That was a tough job.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

4 coats of spar urethane on the 2by material and bottom side of the floor plywood. And 1 coat of oil based paint on the ply. Double coats on the ends and edges.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

So after digging into the project further and going back through Jasons thread I realized it wasn't going to be possible to get all the wiring and rigging under the current floor. No way was I going to rip all that out...so my solution was raising up 1.5 inches and plopping down a new floor on...

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

We'll get the trailer work out of the way early... Wont need both trailers now so I swapped the islander over to the trailer I already had. Made a couple modifications as the ribs weren't in the same place on this hull. This trailer has beefier axles, tires and trailer brakes. It will get a lot...

First up - remove the windshield and consoles. Was able to sell the windshield and consoles to recoup some costs. The hull this one is replacing sitting back there on jacks in the yard.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

OK, heres a few photos the day i towed it home. You can see Jason had the IO back out again, the console gutted, the bolsters removed from the consoles back and an outboard bracket built. It was pretty dirty as he had to leave it outside for a few months.

    1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild - Chapter 2

So anyone that followed Jason's most recent update on his thread for the 22 Islander build, you now know it found a new home with me. Given the epic build thread and history on it I felt i needed to start a new thread continuing the legacy. I think a little back story on how I ended up with...
