It is the abnormal that causes the desire for many to have two (or more) batteries. No fun being stuck out in the briney blue waiting for Seatow to come out and jump start a motor or to tow you home.

I am guessing that someone rewired your used 703 ten pin harness. Below are three different illustrations showing how the side of the ten pin harness towards the motor is configured.

Something is not adding up.

What is the second battery connected to? In a typical installation there may be one battery dedicated to starting the motor and a second battery dedicated to providing electricity to everything else in the boat. If the main battery were to fail such that it can not start the motor the second...

For most folks it will work out if they focus on the complete model identity and year of production. They can then use the Yamaha USA parts catalogs to get the correct part needed. Of course a good man behind the parts counter can either do that for the user or confirm that the user made the...

Sounds like the carburetors are not doing their job. Were the carburetors completely dismantled and cleaned in a heated ultrasonic cleaner? If not that is where I would start. When the motor starts to fall on its face have someone spritz some gasoline into the air intake. If it picks up and...

Seems that for the most part Mercury Marine no longer offers spare parts for those motors made by Yamaha but sold by Mercury. In many cases they can be obtained from a Yamaha fealer.

Problem with checking by engine serial number is that many engine serials are not in the Yamaha USA database. Certainly motors not distributed by Yamaha USA are in there. Many older motors distributed by Yamaha USA are not even in the Yamaha USA data base.

More than likely not a dimes worth of a difference between a 1983, 1984 and 1985 40E model.

Not all Yamaha F150's are the same.

If the Yamaha part number is not the same then the filter is not the same. The 65L-24563-00-00 filter is used in a number of different Yamaha models.

Interesting. Yamaha data says it is a 1985 model year.

What is the complete model identity. All T9.9s are not the same. Start button or key switch?

What Yamaha calls a boat in a box. Box being used to segregate the motor from the boat when trouble shooting.

Wiring diagram is in the back of the applicable service manual. No tool available. You will have to devise a means on your own. Most practical and cost effective way would be to disconnect the ten pin connector at the front of the motor. On the motor side connector jumper the red wire terminal...

Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and again. Hopefully some aviation mechanic is not following your method of madness.

Technically it is a bonding cable. A corrosion prevention device. Tries to keep components from having a difference of voltage. It should be connected. In the photo the bonding wire appears to be missing the end terminal fitting.

Do you have a link to the part number for the combination hose and orifice?

Does not even have to be USCG approved. Not understanding how Suzuki is making it harder than it needs to be. Replacement hose is available from Suzuki. The orifice/jet is not available but should not be needed anyway. The Suzuki service manual may have additional details available that...
