2006 Yamaha F150 wont turn off

Once your boat cranks up, it runs all by itself without the need for the battery (unless it's a 4 stroke with fuel injection possibly). So, when you turn the key off, all you are doing is grounding the ignition system. I have older motors that are probably much less sophisticated than yours...

2006 Yamaha F150 wont turn off

So far you've ordered an ignition switch for a motorcycle, a remote tilt/trim switch that didn't need replacing and a wiring harness that is not correct. You would have saved a lot of money if you had purchased some test equipment like a test light and a multimeter and started trying to...

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

Water skiing was a blast! Nobody around here does that anymore. I'm shopping for skis right now so I can teach my grandkids! I bet we'll impress them when they see their Pops and their dads show them our tricks! But maybe this 63 year old guy better take it easy. I can remember the "morning...

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

Yes Jimmbo, it did have a fiberglass cowling. With small tailfins!! It's more the look of the boat that reminds me of our boat. That Evinrude lark was electric start, but had a door that opened down with the pull handle in there and some carburetor adjustment screws in there too. Yeah, I've...

Chrysler 55 one cylinder occasionally fires

You say there is spark until the wire touches the plug. That's how it works. The spark is an electrical arc. If the wire is touching the plug, there will be no arc. Also, you say it's running on one cylinder. I wouldn't run it any more until you know for sure it's not a carburetor issue...

    Bog/Stall/Die on Throttle

You mentioned both Carbs and throttle bodies. That's a bit confusing to me.

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

That set up looks a lot like a boat we had when I was a kid. It had a 40 HP Evinrude Lark. My mon and dad used to ski behind it. I've seen those long bars across the back of older motors that were used with steering cables on hydroplanes! Not steering cables like we use today, but the old...

    Help with noise

I had an older 25 Evinrude that made a irritating noise. Sort of high pitched. Turned out it was the latch for the cowling that needed one more twist on the wrench to make it go away. It didn't rattle, but just a high pitched sort of humming sound.

1990 175 xp overheating at idle

Yep. Whenever I pick up a used boat, I change plugs, water pump, lower unit oil, clean the carbs and drain all the gas out of the tank. You never know what type of maintenance has been done.

1995 25hp Johnson 2 stroke, what are the best years for the 25 hp?

I had a 1976 that made a 12' john boat fly!! That thing lasted for years. I finally sold it and the boat when kids came along and it was no longer big enough. I'd look at the larger big square cowling. When they started making them smaller, there was more plastic and things were much more...

New owner of 2012 G3 Suncatcher Fish and Cruise

Often when removing the foot of the motor to replace the water pump the plastic nipple for the speedometer is broken, or the tube that attaches to it. If that small tubing is being used by the baitwells, I would certainly plug those lines off. That seems very strange to me. You should be able...

NGK BUHW 2622 spark plug replacement?

Champion QL76V is the replacement for that spark plug. That's what the Mercury website shows for this motor now if you want that style spark plug.

4.3 runs great for about 30 minutes then bogs, pops won't accelerate

In my old "hot rod" days, the first thing we would do if this happened was to check to see if the coil was hot to the touch. If it was we replaced it. We would occasionally test for resistance on the coil, but usually just toss it and replace it. The older guys would shake it to see if it...

    Need 100 hp manual

I'd try searching for a video on how to do it. There's probably some pretty good video's out there which, to me, is better than a few pictures and a lot of explanations to read. It's always good to have a manual for your motor, but when I need a quick answer, I look for videos out there.

    Sea foam for outboards?

Oh, this is always a fun one!!! One man's product of choice makes him a complete idiot in the eyes of another guy!! I'll join in. In the mid 70's, I worked as a teenager at a service station. You know, pull up, "ding, ding", "fill 'er up and check the oil sir?" Yeah, that was me. We...

1992 Johnson outboard not getting fuel.

You keep saying it's not getting fuel. You think it's the fuel pump. When you pump up the primer bulb, that puts fuel directly into the carburetors. That eliminates a problem with the fuel pump. The fuel pump maintains the fuel delivery once the motor is running. So, disconnect the fuel...

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

Sorry, just re-read your initial post. Yeah Racerone made the right call. 2-stroke motors utilize the compression of the down stroke of the piston to push fuel into the top of the cylinder. If there is any gap in the reed valves, you're starving for fuel. Once RPM's pick up, the pressure is...

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

If the motor is a wide open throttle at the beginning of this video and it struggles to get to full RPM's, but finally does, I would suspect either a fuel delivery problem, where you're starving for gas until the fuel pump is able to fill the carburetors, or else a timing issue. When you...

2006 Yamaha F150 wont turn off

Not sure if it matters, but the ignition switch you ordered and installed is for a motorcycle! I don't think it will have a "press to choke" feature and I'm not sure what else might be different. Maybe the wire colors are different. Not sure why you ordered a motorcycle ignition switch.

How to plan a route? is there an app like trip advisor?

I tried a lot of the apps. Most have free trial periods, but the navionics is the only one I kept and paid for. I find it most like the apps on my phone for driving directions. Most of the places I launch from or go to pop up when I start typing, but if not, I can just find it on the map and...
