Tools that younger people would not recognize.

I still have a few spouts laying around for oil cans. Those are from way before my time though.

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

I originally went off plug reads which indicated lean... coincidentally I did have a vacuum leak as well which probably skewed the plug reads. Currently I pulled the AFR meter out as I, at my jetting, was seeing 12.5-13.5 pretty much everywhere I would run which I would say seems safe. I had a...

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

It's pretty snappy everywhere honestly. Again, metering through 4 jets when the secondary is open plus having a metering rod for cruise is probably where the improvement comes from vs having just the 2 jets to cover the entire operating range. I was actually able to watch the AFR rise slightly...

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

One other thing I've tested somewhat un scientifically... I've run the same route now a few times with both the 2bbl and 4bbl and it would appear that the 4bbl at cruise is a good bit more fuel efficient. Figured out I'm burning something to the tune of 5 gallons per hour and averaging nearly 4...

Water in gear oil... (Not a great day)

So it didn't blow up after about 85 miles of running. So that's cool. I have a noticeable vibration that wasn't there however. It appears to be the hub, and isn't the first time I've had an issue with this. Watching the prop freewheel in neutral while flushing you can see it speed up on the...

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

Yeah. Haven't paid for a pump out in 16 years. Just 60k in taxes.

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

We have several public pump outs at transient slips around me that are no charge and maintained by the towns/county. Pump out boats are no charge as well. Obviously I'm paying taxes towards that but still... it's one nice perk I suppose.

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

Today I learned not all pump out stations are free.

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

I want to run the middle/upper Delaware... and then I see the rocks and boulders that are in the channels during low flow from land when I'm out to dinner and I decide not to. I'll take my coastal plains and ending up on a sand bar over a gearcase.

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

I'll be the first to admit I've used doel fins (the davis ones as the others just never worked well) on and off forever. On very underpowered and heavy hulls they have their place. My 3.0l in a 19' is a perfect example of severely under powered. :p But adequate power, proper propping or trim...

Wellcraft 210 Elite Restoration NEED HELP!!

It's hard to describe when you're there... but the ground glass will look clean and it will have some fiber and teeth to it when you grind it. The dirty stuff looks and feels more like smeared resin if that makes sense

    2005 Chaparral Signature 290 - Repowered

We either need to know drive ratio and prop pitch or you need to verify your tach. I agree somwthing either isn't adding up or you are remembering incorrectly. With no other changes other than increased power, rpm for rpm the 350 and the 305 should be identical.

Best way to fasten bow rails?

Probably going to have to drill new holes. Forwhatever reason every manufacturer I've found that offers both ss and pot metal space the holes slightly different... just to screw with us I suppose.

Wellcraft 210 Elite Restoration NEED HELP!!

Check around, you may luck out and find a relatively cheap off the shelf tank that is close enough in size to work. Or do what I did and get a custom one made. Not too many people have a large fabricator basically in their backyard though. :p

What is your worst day on the water?

I think dad's worst was when the steering pin snapped on his old boat. This was the old MC-1 splined steering pin and he was running about 50 mph. His buddy said "all I saw was white." Dad said it did a 360 in the footprint of the boat. How no one was thrown off he doesn't know.

    3.0L differences

When mine started getting water in it from a rotted manifold. (the original manifold and riser went 12 years in salt water before an issue. I inspected it once a season, the manifold rotted internally near an exhaust port.) But you would see it on the plug. What was happening was on long idles...

What is your worst day on the water?

Forgot the drain plug on my float test after the restoration. Only time I ever have done that. Dad's yapping away on the phone "how aren't you here yet? I talked to you over an hour ago, it wouldn't take me this long." whole riot act. I said last thing on the checklist is to install the drain...
