    Transom assembly rebuild

My transom housing is ate out on the very bottom and where the swivel pin seal goes. So i'm on the hunt for a new or very good condition housing. It seems the bravo housing is the same as a newer alpha gen 2 housing. Can anyone confirm this?

replaced gimbal bearing in merc alpha 1. cannot get alignment tool to engage with engine coupler at all. have tried to move bearing every way

you probably figured it out by now but if you cant get the tool to go in take a 1" bar/tube and that will go into the coupler and give you a visual of which way you need to go

    Transom assembly rebuild

Yeah I didn’t make myself clear I have the transom assembly off the hull as well and completely tore down to inspect everything. Luckily the gimbal ring is good. I didn’t have any play in the steering, only leaking from the seal due to a corroded pin

    Transom assembly rebuild

I seen the nuwave and have heard they fit good. I have removed the engine as I did not want to cut the hole in the top of the housing.

    Transom assembly rebuild

I’m in the process of rebuilding my bravo transom assembly due to a leaking swivel pin seal. I’m going to get a stainless pin, I see some cheaper kits on Amazon/ebay and just wondering if anyone has any experience using them? I have read there might be some fitment issues with the tiller arm and...

    Rusted surpentine pulleys

Just got the boat out of storage and figured I would give an update after having the pulleys painted for a year. On the inside( belt does not run on), I rust converted and used single stage rust coat paint. On the outside and rest of the pulleys I used a rust converter, a 2 part epoxy primer...

    Outdrive Alignment

I fought alignment issues for a while with my current boat. Couldn't get it with the front mounts, so I replaced the rear mounts to the new type and it still wasn't perfect. Although i could get the drive to go on with a couple kicks. Sounds like this is where most shops would call it good...

    Omc block enterchange

I'm considering buying a 1989 bayliner 2455 that has a 351 with low compression. I found a nice rebuilt 302 block 80's vintage without heads. What's the chance of the heads off the 351 and everything else would bolt up the same?

Looking to add a transom shower

I'm looking to install a transom shower and just looking for ideas and pictures of some of the set ups people have used. I have seen people use a soft ballast bag from wakeboats. I don't need much pressure. Just wondering why I couldn't use a bilge pump in the tank run to a garden hose handle?

    Air actuator removal

While I have the engine out to clean up the pulleys I'd like to remove the air actuator water drain system. One actuator is on the back of the raw water pump, made of brass which is bolted to a metal bracket which is bolted to the motor. the new pump back is made of plastic. Will it be fine to...

    Alignment witness marks

I changed my old style motor mounts to the new style knurled type and having trouble with alignment. It's close, but in the pictures you can see I have heavier marks on the top of the tool and lighter on the bottom. I have set the bearing multiple times and used the provided SS washers. It...

    Rusted surpentine pulleys

After having my first motor with surpentine pulleys for a couple years now I'm getting tired of them always needing attention. Both years I have had to wire brush/sand/file the groves down and re paint them. The paint wears off quick and then the rust starts. The belt dust makes a big mess in...

    Axle/ spindle advise

I have an aluminum tandem venture trailer for my 26ft boat which I have had on going issues with the axles on it since I bought it 2 years ago. The spindles were shot, the races where chewed up and letting water into the hubs every use. So end of last year i bought 2 new complete axles and hubs...

    496 no start issue

I recently put the motor back in my boat and having a hard time getting it to roll over. The motor has a relay for the starter and not a starter slave solenoid. I have power from the battery to the starter, but no power to the starter solenoid when I turn the key to start. I have power to the...

Alignment problems with new style rear mounts

I changed out my sagging rear motor mounts on my 496 with new ones from merc. The new ones are slightly different then the old style. You don't use the spring washer inside the fiber washer anymore. The new mounts come with a shim to put where the spring washer used to go in case you cannot get...

Having trouble getting a level trailer

I am having trouble getting my boat trailer to ride level. I am using an adjustable reese hitch on the highest setting and it is still not enough. The hitch on my venture trailer is bolted to the top of the tongue. Is there a way to lower the hitch on the trailer which would in turn raise the...

    5.0fl running hot

My buddy just bought a 1994 20ft chris craft with a 5.0fl omc in it. Did the first test run yesterday and the engine run around 140-150 while cruising, but then when he started pushing it, it jumped right up to 200-220 and did not want to cool down. The exhaust manifolds and risers are both...

    Collapsed rear motor mount?

I have been having a hard time getting my engine to align after finding a rear motor mount nut stripped out. I couldn't get my alignment tool in the coupler at all. So with a 1" bar it looked like the rear of the motor is down. After some research and a closer look, does this motor mount look...
