Figured I’d show what the brand new plugs looked like after the 15 minute run I have been meaning to get myself a cheap borescope

    Water in exhaust manifolds

Good points. I’m not sure what merc says in that regard but I’ve changed riser gaskets in my old boats before and never had an issue. Last one had dry joint which I liked a lot. I did put a straight edge along them and “looked” OK,,, but 0.003 is small lol. And I torqued to 33ftlbs and didn’t...

    Water in exhaust manifolds

There was a little pitting on them. I cleaned the surfaces up good and I used a gasket maker with the gaskets as well. And showed no signs of water getting by when inspecting

    Water in exhaust manifolds

Manifolds and risers are good. And I drained them both times before removing them.

    Water in exhaust manifolds

Before winterizing this year I decided to pull the risers on my 5.7 efi open cooling, to check the gaskets, and found a little water in the bottom of both exhaust manifolds. I boat in salt water, flush it on the hose after every use, and the water in the exhaust manifolds was fresh water. The...

New boat- high idle 5.7 efi

Out of curiosity,, could you just block off the port to the throttle body and run the hose up to the other side of the spark arrestor?

New boat- high idle 5.7 efi

I believe it may have something to do with the pcv valve or lack there of,, on the starboard side of the engine,, there is an open 90 degree plastic fitting from the valve cover going to the top of the flame arrestor. On the port side, another open 90 plastic fitting from the valve cover goes...

New boat- high idle 5.7 efi

I will spray some brake cleaner around the throttle body today. Also is two beeps at key on position normal? I don’t get any beeps while engine is running.

New boat- high idle 5.7 efi

Just purchased a boat with a 5.7 efi. After it warms up the idle goes up around 1100 rpm and I believe it should be around 650. The throttle cable is not holding it there, I can see the lever all the way back to the non adjustable stopper. Even removed the cable to be sure. Any insight to what...

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I can do all the maintenance and pull engines/drives in and out and strip them down. My skills would stop at anything internal. Still not mine but looking like its going to happen soon. Any chance a fresh water cooling system off an older 3.7 mercruiser would fit?

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I did take the oil cap off while it was running and couldn't feel any air blowing out. It is due for a full service for sure, Impeller as well but was pulling water good from the hose and not overheating
