Clean out live well lines + water in the fuel tank

I’m a bit confused…I have screens on my pump intakes and cleanable in-line filters behind them. Never had an issue either my livewell or raw water washdown pumps. My bait and live wells run directly overboard. I stick the hose in the drain and back flush the line to clear any remaining organic...

    Helping a Marine neighbor out

What is your criteria for “pounds” beers? A six pack a day? A 12 pack a day? A case a day? Back in the day, I’d drink 4-5 beers socializing at the pub after work then take a 6 home with me. Easily drink a 12 pack of “lawn mowing beer” a day working around the farm on a weekends. Looking...

Are pontoons easy to repair by welding?

Generally speaking, most aluminum extrusions/structural are 6XXX series aluminum which are technically not "bendable", although some you can do a bit of "cold forming" before the material stress cracks. 3XXX and 5XXX series aluminum are very malleable. I'd cut the damaged section out/away and...

    Transducer mounting Question?

Did I not answer your question? You will get interference anytime you have the prop in reverse. If that’s ok with you, you’re good to go.

    safety chain question

The hooks are the weakest link. The “S” type hooks are the worst of the worst. The class 4 hitch on the F150 has poor/inconvenient chain connection points. Ended up buying a set of shackles for ease of connecting chains of adequate strength.

Garmin Striker Vivid 7SV and Transducer

What is it doing? Transducer failures are common. Head units, not so much. If the head unit turns on, it’s most likely a problem with the transducer

    Transducer mounting Question?

I have both thru hull (conventional CHRIP) and side scan transducers on my boat. The thru hull is mounted on center line, 18” in front of the transom. Works like a charm at any speed, but get interference with the boat in reverse. Installed the side scan transducer 10” off center to clear...

    Snapped a rod

I took up rod building out of necessity when I started surf fishing. At the time, there where no off the shelf rods designed to throw bait & 8. By chance, a well known local rod builder and I became friends after I commissioned him to build a set of #30 trolling rods for me. The first rod I...

Need help w my 2001 johnson ocean pro 115hp

Had the same issue with mine. Slowly getting worst over time. Changing a suspect battery cable which helped. Changing the starter resolved the issue.

Idles 1000rpm in neutral and runs a litte rough

My 200 hp Ocean Pro idles @ 800 in gear, ~900 neutral and 1,250-1,300 on a hose. The word "smooth" has never been used to describe the motor. The Mercury outboard it replaced was much smoother on the troll.

Entire electrical system dies when under way

The circuit breaker is part of the boat, not the motor. Mine was a small, non-descript white box with a red button mounted on the transom under the back seat. Should be on the main power feed to the helm within a couple of feet of the main power source (ACC terminal on the battery switch)...

Entire electrical system dies when under way

Should be a 40-50 amp push button circuit breaker (back by battery) on the main power feed to the power distribution panel. Had to replace mine for a corrison issue In-line fuse holders are a notorious for adding resistance to circuits. Given the issue when turning on the bilge pump, I’d start...

    Snapped a rod

I was building 100-125 rods a year up before I had ACDF surgery in 2020. Took 6 months off to recover, let my business license lapse and never got back in the game. Have done some repairs for friends but that's about it. Got into split grips as a weight saving measure when I started building...

    Snapped a rod

Looks good…. I have a couple of blanks in the shop I glued up (split grip handles) and sat aside 2 years ago. Maybe this will give me a bit of motivation to finally build the Century Sling Shot I’ve been eyeing the past two seasons
