    Anchor Rope

    Sand or rock bottom you will anchor in? Minimum 1/2" diameter and length 3x the depth you will fish in (for normal weather). The key is to have lots of chain to hold anchor down so that it will dig in (if in sand bottom) . I don't fish on rocks or on top of wrecks. I don't like buying new anchors.

    RUN! That old of a boat, drill transom to check for ROT. Seat cosmetics is the least of your worries.

    Check for water on dipstick. If none, pull distributor and use engine oil primer. Drain al the old gas. You may have to clean out gas filters. If water in block, check for block cracks. If cracks, look for another motor.

    on Alphas, there is another seal on the other side of the gimbal bearing. Water can get into bellows by coming via engine hatch via gravity and landing on shaft exposed between transom and coupler. I had a bad seal one time that did this to me.

    I am assuming u have a Chevy V8 with Thunderbolt 5 with Knock Sensor. If so, make sure sensor is functioning CIRRECTLY.

    you have to work at getting lube on the upper bushing. I have no idea why MC didn't add a grease fitting there.

    I wouldn't remove drive until I tested with wd or put into water to see if it quietens down. Just my 2 cents

    Gimbal ring bushings worn???? Noise only coming from outside????? Spray a little WD 40 on each and try to work in oil. If noise is reduced, then replace bushings. At least you will know if noise is coming from them.

    u have corrosion somewhere. Look for green crap. Start at battery. Make sure battery is in good cond and fully charged.

    oil is cheaper than pulling motor. Hopefully, no rust on pan?

    If v8s were pulled there is a chance that some rear motor mount parts may have been dislodged and fell in bilge. Happened to me too. If it does, you will never align anything.

    A number of headaches may await you. Pulling drive and manually inspecting bearings and u-joints is a must. But, that's an old boat and may have ROT in transom or stringers which will cause motor to shake when under a load. MC's engine mounts are strong. Closely examine motor while someone else...

    If motors sat for several years, oil on bearings may have completely drained off or reduced. I would not take the chance, but everyone is different.
