MC Chevy V8 Bravo 1 Crankshaft water pickup pump issues

Ordered impellers. Next time I will disconnect hose at pump's body to be sure water is getting up and through intermediate housing and down to pump housing. According to Iboat forum member history, other Bravo 1 users have had similar problems. We never check for water at housing and like you...

MC Chevy V8 Bravo 1 Crankshaft water pickup pump issues

THX!!!! No strainers. No thru hulls. Water come in via gills/holes on lower OD unit and up through transom assembly and then down to pump. I use a Quicksilver 44357Q2 Through Gear Case Flushing Kit. It is a bit more difficult to attach than clam shell type muffs. But, it also appears to attach...

MC Chevy V8 Bravo 1 Crankshaft water pickup pump issues

Boat sat in my driveway for about 4 years due to health issues. When I put it up 4 years ago it ran very well. Both motors were about the 150-degree temperature range during sea trial. I am very familiar with Alphas, but it looks like former owner may have skimped on the best water pick up...

    Help! Planing issues

I assume Alpa drives? A lot of boat and people for 220 hp. Sounds like boat was never sea trialed? Check for hidden cavities that may have filled with water while prior owner used it. Why did he sell it????? Does top speed fall within parameters for motor? Do you have 2 stroke outboard or 4...

Still issues with base timing TB5 Chevy v8

Thanks, but Seloc wiring going back to module didn't make any sense, at least to me. Must be some sort of feedback loop in the wiring bundle. Thanks again!!!

Still issues with base timing TB5 Chevy v8

I know I am supposed to ground the purple/white wire coming out of the DCM for base timing setting but tracing that purple/white wire only goes back to my main wire bundle. Maybe I am not seeing something in the bundle justifying this procedure? Is there a capacitor the wire goes to inside the...

    TB5 Chevy 350 Thermostat.

Thx! I couldn't find any discussion of the best heat range for antifreeze closed cooled systems vs open systems. None of the vendors that I have examined so far differentiate between the heat range of a closed antifreeze system vs closed one. I suspect they were different.

    TB5 Chevy 350 Thermostat.

I have found 143 and 160s locally. I suspect due to being in a warmer environment, I should install a 143. However, are the sea water cooled vs closed cooled stats. different?

    TB5 Chevy 350 Thermostat.

I have an anti-freeze closed cooling v8 that I believe I need to replace thermostat. Will a standard non marine thermostat work. Only antifreeze touches the stat.

    Coupler failure

Normally, prop hub will fail first. Take to prop shop for testing. If you need to test coupler, lock up motor from spinning using best way. Make sure OD is in gear. Then using 2 jam nuts installed on prop shaft, try turning motor. Long breaker bar or torque wrench should provide enough manual...

    TB 4 AND 5 COILS

I ordered a coil for my carbureted TB5 MC Chevy V8. The ad read that it was for either ignition system for V8s and HEI. However, after examining the new coil, the positive side had 15 vt. listed. I am currently reading 12.25 volts coming from my ignition wire. I have always had 12 volts listed...

    Knocking noise at low idle

don't know how old boat is or mounts' condition. You may want to check alignment, if you haven't already. Then buy cheap stethoscope and listen. You can feal U-joints for excessive wear and examine for rust. Obviously replace if bad. You can also feal roughness in the gimbal bearing.
