Drilling will be next on my list, any suggestion on bit size? And heard on the Y pipe, is there any known way to test this isolated from the potential transom issue?

So I got out today and wrestled off the elbow on the exhaust. I got a garden hose and stuck it down the Y pipe and put the plug in the boat. I let it run for a few minutes and looked around to monitor the leak, I did not see any sign of leakage around the Y pipe to transom area. After I turned...

Will try this. Do you know if it's easier to go at the top boot or the bottom boot on the elbow

The leaking from the steering pin area is very small as is the speedo tube leak. At the moment I am trying to determine the exact cause of the leak through the trim manifold area, transom or Y pipe... Or maybe the new trim manifold. I will probably pull the new manifold off and check the gasket...

So I could not get that damn exhaust elbow off. I ended up putting the boat back in the water on the trailer, the leak is a lot slower with the top of the out drive still out of the water. But once it's floating it's a decently steady stream again. I tried to feel for leak around the y pipe but...

If I can't find said leak by running some water down the Y pipe or feeling around more, would filling the bilge up to the thru hull for the trim hoses be a bad idea?

Thanks guys, I will do some more investigating over the weekend and see if I can pinpoint the leak area

The exhaust boot on the elbow correct?

If I run on muffs would this be a good way to narrow the leak down to the exhaust o-ring or not.. if it leaks on muffs, it is the o-ring?

Snagged a few photos of the lower bolts, looks like I could access them pretty easily to attempt to tighten them. They don't look corroded but maybe in the transom they are. Any objections to trying to tighten them a bit? Looks like the exhaust has a connection there too that could be leaking...

Went to tap around on the transom again.. dull sound and didn't get much bounceback on the lower left side of the transom on the outside of the boat. Assuming that is sign of rot and potential leak area.. The rest of the transom around the bell housing / bracket sounds good. Anything I could do...

Thanks for the insight, will definitely look around some more

Corrosion I would doubt... boat has been in freshwater all its life. I will have to put the boat in the water again and take another video / look at exactly where the water is coming from. All I know is that it is much worse after pulling the drive and doing the bellows. Would be worried to go...

Hmm I can try to get another look at that... This could occur even with the motor not running?

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

I did already try this from the inside right below the transom plate... it didn't budge with the screwdriver. There is a transducer mounted on the rear of the transom. I will pull this off and see if any water comes out of the holes... Transom tap test doesn't give any red flags either. I may...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Thanks. I will do some more investigating to see if I can confirm if the transom is in bad shape or not. It would make sense that the leak got worse after I pulled the drive if that is the issue. Anything I can do in the meantime to seal it better? Or is this a total no-go

Neither of those sound very good.. This is with the engine off, not sure if that would make much of a difference in the exhaust manifold. I am thinking it might be the transom as this leak got a lot worse after I pulled the drive, maybe I jiggled it around and made it worse. This is a mediocre...

Small update, I ended up pulling the drive back off and ordering a different alignment tool. Turns out the original one I was using did not actually slide all the way into the coupler because of a design flaw. So glad I did that, aligned the coupler and got pretty even grease on the tool. Slid...

Mercruiser 3.0 base timing a myth?

Is your black wire coming from the dist going to a 12V source? I would try and idle the motor and unplug / plug in the dongle. See if the RPMs change at all
