Got my timing gun and got some time to head out and check timing. I can't figure how to put the motor in base timing mode, there are no connectors on my dizzy where you're supposed to jump the white wires. Will attach a photo. The only wire there is from the shift interrupt switch. Anyways I...

Hmm, I am assuming slightly advanced timing can't cause that lean condition. The carb is clean and the inline filter on it looked clean too, so I was thinking fuel system was fine. I did replace the fuel line from tank to pump, but it ended up being a few inches longer. Not sure if that would...

Pulled the plugs today and it seems that they show some signs of detonation. At least they were very very hot. I'll post some pics. I also stuck a cheap "inspection camera" into the cylinders to see what I could. Nothing jumped out at me and the camera is pretty poor quality but doesn't seem to...

Okay thanks. Will try to get to timing it this week. Could the detonation events have caused any serious / permanent damage? Anything I should check?

Will get a timing light and check. Does boat need to be in the water to check or on muffs is fine? It could be from being lean but I don't recall it making this sound under WOT before I pulled this dist and I have went through the carb since. Very clean

Thank you guys for all your help. Today I replaced the dist cap, rotor, all spark wires and the ignition module. Boat started right up and runs great. Only concern I have is that at WOT there is a distinct pinging/ticking nose from the motor. It only happens at 90% or above throttle. Also...

Thanks a lot guys. I am not familiar with using a multi-meter, but after reading up on it and figuring how to zero mine I retested. Results from following the steps alldodge posted Step 2: Needle doesn't move / infinity Step 3: 0 Ohms Step 4: 0 Ohms Step 5: 8000 Ohms The trick for step 5 was...

I just retested the ign coil with some wires sticking in and that definitely worked better. I fear my multimeter although is working may not be good enough to give me the accuracy I need. Here is a photo of it. On steps 3 and 4 on setting 10x, the needle shot all the way to the right. I don't...

I did get a lower resistance reading on the new coil. It was hovering around 60Ohm vs the 200Ohm of the previous coil doing the same test. I will try the small pieces of wire and see if I can get any reading that way.

I have not added a direct ground to the coil if that is what you mean, no.

This is what I was concerned about. Don't want to go jamming the probes in, but can't tell if I am getting a good connection or not

I just tested my ignition coil and did not get any resistance readings at all on steps 3, 4, 5. Does this sound likely? I am almost positive my meter is fine, as I was getting readings when testing the pickup coil. If so, I will order a new ignition coil

Thank you, on my coil there is a plug with the purple power wire and the grey which I understand to be the tach/shift interrupt wire. I am not sure how I would disconnect the tach at the coil without also disconnecting the purple power wire

Thanks guys. I will test the coil today with my meter. I have reconnected the shift interrupt switch asI could not find out how to properly disconnect it. My tach is also entirely disconnected at the dash. Here is a pic of my shift switch. The right side wire goes to the terminal post that has...

Yes, I have 12V at the coil. Also my tach is disconnected at the dash to rule that out.

Thanks for the insight, you are speaking of the 15-20AMP fuse? Mine has the fuses on the dash if that is what you mean. I will check that as well

Update: I replaced the pickup coil and motor still turns but wont start up. Hooked up inline spark tester between distributor and ignition coil and there is no spark still. Any ideas?
