    Steering has always had about an inch of slack back and forth before engaging the tiler. I feel like it's gotten a little worse. Is this a normal amount of slack and how would I go about tightening it up?

    Driveshaft housing oil seals and driver tool help

    Just did this same job on my Gen2. New kits have a single double lip seal, opposed to 2 single lip seals. Install it with the slight flange facing down towards the prop and use some liquid gasket on the edges. Installed mine with a socket, forgot the exact size, worked great.

    Yup, thats it. Flange side down into the case, tight fit for the new seals but use a correct sized socket or the merc seal tool to work it in there. Also, add a little gasket sealer on the mating surface .

    Just did mine...there is a slight flange on one side of the double-seal. That is the side that is made to fit down into the housing, towards the prop.

    I think I may have found the problem. Used my finger to gently feel first, used the screwdriver for the video. Upper oil seal kit and spanner wrench ordered.

    I'm kicking myself, my boat is a 99. I've had it for six years with no issues, this season I decided to do some extra maintenance and do the shift shift assembly and carrier assembly, Have never had oil leaks before and now I do.
