    We’re doing the compression check. But he sold the boat to somebody else. Guy works out of state and he’s coming back Thursday to pull the motor. I’m mostly concerned about compression. Anything else I can probably fix myself…. Thanks to this forum! Heh.

    I’m abouta buy a 200 Hp Johnson (2000 year). Seller sent a video of it running on a hose. I will do a compression check before we pull the motor. Does this sound right to you guys? Seems to be surging a little bit at idle. But I don’t even really know what they’re supposed to sound like.

    Hmmm… mine both run down the starboard side. I’ll reassemble tomorrow and post pictures. My old shift cable works fine, it was the throttle cable that got corroded and locked up. I just thought I’d do the shift cable while I was in there. 🤷‍♂️

    Yes. I reinstalled the old shift cable and installed the new throttle cable, just like they came out. This photo was taken with the shifter in neutral.

    Well, the bolts came out with a hand impact wrench real easy. Almost too easy! But I do in fact have some continuity (ohm readings vary, but none were infinity) between the ground plate in the VR and all four wires: both yellows, the gray, and the purple. Guess this VR is toast. 🥂
