since you have no "history" about this motor then i would also recommend gettin' rid of tha oiler... not knowin' about whether or not its ever been hot or not over tha years is not a good thing....... jmo
history of a motor is very important ta know... ya mostly can't go with "tha seller says"...
to old and forgetful ta argue 'bout it... could be but think tha '84 had a three ram also.. maybe not all but those were some transition years ('83/'84) with trim, block design, chargin' stuff, mounts and such... most internet parts list are no help with pining down what went where and when...
QBhoy i gotta disagree with ya on tha oiler.. merc kept tha basic design around for over 21 years so ta me thats not a bad design.. tha main reasons for failures was/is ta poor maintance and/or over heat of tha motor which weakens tha ring gear. so ta me generlizin' tha thing as a whole is not...
tha "exact" number from tha service manual is 17.5 ft. lbs... we didn't use a torque wrench on those much anyway... no ona shop.. jus been at it with tha 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 V6 merc from 1976 to 'bout 2008... mostly hot rods.
send me an email addy and i'll send ya an oem manual (pdf) that will cover...
before we got tha harness we use a coupla needles inserted into tha wire itself... think its between tha tan/? and orange???.. long time ago, not positive on those colors.. sure someone else on here will know that for sure...
when it starts losing power push tha key in.. also try pumping tha bulb under same scenario.... if that changes anything then ya may have a mechanical fuel pump or blub problem.....
merc harness, both boat and engine harness will have wiring for a tach.. it will be a gray wire for signal.. from reg/rectifier to tach......
copy and paste tha below in your address bar and enter... it will ope a pdf that has all you will need...
should be a gray wire under tha dash.. tha other end should be plugged into a gray wire on one of tha rec/reg..... thats tha "signal" circuit... did tha boat not come with a tach or are you jus now adding one?
