    upper crank bearing... no sealer?

So after putting toghether a 1985 70hp (49 cube block), i realized i had a brain-fart and did NOT put sealer around the upper crank bearing head and it's 0-ring. I was going off an old 1979 service manual, and it didn't mention it. Then , when i got back to my shop, was looking through the 1989...

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

i just talked to Jason. i'm doing a v4 gt-100 as mentioned and he said Vertex are the best money can buy. He will bore my block depending on which pistons I choose. Vertex are rare for the crossflows. Wiseco obviously need more room to grow in the bore. he knows his stuff super nice guy and...

    Rectifier/Regulator on 1982 Johnson V4 question?

i was under the impression these had the regulator/rectifier as on unit? the little metal one with 3 yellow wires and one power (red) wire? if it was malfunctioning, i'd pop off the flywheel and check the stator for any signs of bubbling.

Johnson 50 won’t exceed 2k rpm under load

umm that wouldn't effect wide open timing much if anything! its there to introduce correct amount of fuel when the timing is advanced throughout the whole rpm band. are you 100% sure it's not overheating at speed?

Evinrude 1984 25hp not pumping water

yeah just looks like exhaust/unburned fuel from choking it too much when trying to start it. the water intake on these little pin-drive lowers is right under the cavitation plate at the rear. just hook your peepers on to it and check if its clogged. but won't pump a thing without some water over...

    79 Johnson 55hp aisle Speed

yea most of the 50/60 hp 2 cyl motors are atleast 135 psi. the 1988 model i just finished was 140 and 145psi cold. are you sure you are measuring the idle timing with the cam roller advanced to the first (or only depending on model) hash mark?

    1986 Johnson 175 missing

the actual orientation doesn't matter, just as long as they are evenly spaced with a 7/16'' bolt. makes them perfect. also check the timer base magnet ring in the center to be sure it didn't shift. i've used the grey jb weld on these with no issues as well.

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

nothing as far as specialty tools, accept a good micrometer and bore gauge. might get lucky and it will clean up with just a hone job at home and one new piston.

    1986 Johnson 175 missing

what do the other plugs look like? sounds like it's running rich 2 over. did you check the parts manual to make sure the orifices weren't oversized/replaced to begin with? if it's missing, i'd also make sure those carbs are really clean and the float drop settings are correct. i'd also check...

crank bearing loose on 70hp rebuild?

yes i understand it's function. i'm pretty confident all is good. the split bearings make it difficult to get all 3 at once, since you can't see the exact depth and orientation when the crank is covering the pins. the split bearings themselves are easy enough, but what gave me trouble was the...

crank bearing loose on 70hp rebuild?

I'm putting together a 1985 70hp 49ci motor. the split bearing/race on the left is easy to wiggle side to side to the point were it almost touches the side of the crank. i know these are 2 piece split bearings with only a wire clip holding them together, but should they wiggle that much? its a...

    1993 Evinrude 15hp

just turn the slow speed needle in to where it's running it's max rpm at idle, then back it out an 1/8-1/4 turn to prevent a lean condition. bingo. if it's still hard to start, troubleshoot ignition starting with compression test.

Needle bearing wrist pin end help won't fit!

i looked at the parts picture of the OEM needle bearings (superceded the old caged ones) and lo and behold: 28 not 29! is it possible it's ok to have a small gap (roughly 3/4 the thickness of one needle bearing) in it or are they all supposed to be packed really tight? i can imagine, thinking on...
