    Is my motor toast?

Not a terrible idea hahahahaha, I'm going to be stripping it for parts though. Even gonna ship off the block for money.

    Is my motor toast?

Yeah I noticed a small dip but on a choppy day with lots of other boats on the water it's really hard to discern. I had just passed a marina so I had been at low low speed and was slowly working up to speed. Prop seems ok, he said it was more set for speed than torque so more than 4 people it...

    Is my motor toast?

Yeah I'm looking at FB/kijiji seems like 1000-1500 gets me essentially what I have now. Based on that, is that something I could've feasibly prevented or seen coming? Obviously things happen. Time and randomness are unavoidable, and parts let go. But really just trying to make sure I don't...

    Is my motor toast?

I'll give them a ring but it looks like a crankcase/powerhead is around 2k usd. Not worth the money Vs getting a quality used motor from the same line for half the cost. I'd still like to figure out how something like this could happen.

    Is my motor toast?

Yeah on second look today it's the crank case. And yes I live in the Ottawa area. Currently looking to see if I can find a compatible motor so I can use this one for parts.

    Is my motor toast?

Went outside and looked it's the crankshaft case. Don't know if that's better or worse

    Is my motor toast?

That's what I'm assuming, at the price of $2200 USD it's going to be another motor, not worth it since I can get a used one for $1200-1500 CAD. Get some money for parts since the rest of the motor is fine.

    Is my motor toast?

I'll wait until daytime to take another photo for context, I just figured it was the top cylinder. Considering the gas/oil coating on the top of the motor I'm gonna say it's a combustion chamber. Mixture was 50:1 but leaned towards 40:1 if I was rounding to a number. From what I know the...

    Is my motor toast?

Hi all Bought a new boat about a month ago and I've been enjoying the rest of the summer. Was out yesterday and out of nowhere the motor just quit, at first I thought I hit a log or something. Couldn't get it started right away but eventually it came to life, but I couldn't put the cover on...

Spark & Fuel but no go?

I mean that's a possibility obviously with all conditions here listed, I don't feel like it would be because when I turned the flywheel I can hear the audible compression cycle of the pistons I could take the nut off again and see if there's any slip though.

Spark & Fuel but no go?

Hi all, I've been toiling over my motor for the last 7 weeks and have had no luck in getting it back to working form. I'll detail as much as I can. Engine is an Evinrude Lark 50hp from 1974 - 50472m - I have the owners manual and have read through it many times. I dewinterized it and got it...

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

Couple questions for you. I've noticed a couple things in my evenings spent testing the motor. One is some black grease type substance leaking from under the flywheel is this cause for immediate concern? I don't seem to find a ton of information online. I've also noticed the ignition coils...

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

Update for anyone following or reading. Got the DVA adapter today and the power pack is the culprit, thankfully the stator was cranking out plenty of power. Now I'm just going to incredibly and meticulously verify that my keyswitch wiring is solid, read enough forum posts about power packs...

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

No worries! I was hoping to be wrong in this case. Since you're likely more experienced than me. Should I get my boat towed out of the water for a stator replacement or can I manage a flywheel removal and reinstallation at the dock? I'm assuming to complete this job I'll use my impact drill to...

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

Where would the other brown end be? I've got one end coming into the charge coil slot on the power pack and that leads directly into the flywheel area. I've attached the owners manual diagrams for testing and you can see it go into the charge coil. Happy to know if there's another spot

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

My fluke gave back 880 I think, or .880 I'll have to double check, pros and cons of fluke meters is the moving decimal. There's nothing on the CDI regarding anything ohms resistance, just what to do about DVA. I don't believe there's a way to get brown to brown without removal of the flywheel...

That's where I'll likely be getting the replacement!

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

So I tried starting the system with the black/yellow - keyswitch cable disconnected from the powerpack and it still no spark. I'm thinking it must be the stator which is a huge headache. Cheapest one seems to be $300 Canadian and I'll definitely need it out of the water to switch it. Gonna...

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

I guess a different way of putting it is, it's not on Amazon. Which gets here fast and I can return easy.

    1974 Lark 50hp 50472M - Suddenly no spark?

Killswitch being at the key switch? I never really thought about that as a possibility. In the instructions it has an option to disconnect the keyswitch and test it without. So I'll give that a shot. The key switch is beat to **** so that wouldn't necessarily be a surprise, but also much...
