    Close but no cigar:

After working to revive my sunk 2011 Cobalt with a 5.7 GiC-300-P , I am stumped with only one problem. I get a EGC alarm SPN-29-FM3. It is a TCP sensor 2 high voltage alarm. It is one of the signals that control the throttle positioner. I followed the troubleshooting diagram, but with no luck...

    2011 5.7 Gi-C-300-P EGC Alarms

I finally got the right EGC for the engine. I plugged into the Rinda Diacom, and I have the following codes. SPN-29 FMi-3 ( TCP #2 Senser voltage high) . SPN- 697 FMi 5 (ECT gauge driver voltage low.) SPN-698 FMi 5 (Oil pressure gauge driver voltage low) and SPN 699-FMi-5 (Trim gauge driver...

    2011 5.7 EGC power supplies

I am trying to bring back to life my sunken 2011 Cobalt. Have the new engine installed, with brand new EGC. I do not have any of the replacement gauges or switches installed. I have the ignition switch installed, and the engine cranks, but no life. I hooked up the Rinda Diacom adapter to the...

    Oil pressure kill switch

I have a 1999 four winns Horizon with a 4.3 GL ( Carb) . I replaced the fuel pump, and now it runs great. On the fuel pump box, it said that on a lot of boats if the oil pressure is low, it will shut off the fuel pump. Where I don't have an ECM or EFI this shouldn't be possible right? Thanks Dave-R

Where is the engine alarm located

On my sunken 2011 Cobalt restoration, I've bought all new gauges, and switches. I got to thinking about where the engine alarms come from. Any one have an idea? As I understand it the speedometer has a bunch of functions, so maybe it is internal with it. Thanks all. Dave-R

    Testing the Trim motor

Before I start to replace relays, and tear apart trim controls. I would like to test the trim motor. On the transom, the trim plug has 2 wires. I'm thinking of landing a jumper on them one at a time to check up and down operation. I am thinking the relays hot one wire to go up, and then hots up...

    2007 4.3 GL-G ignition timing

I am getting a lot of different information on setting the initial timing on this engine. I have the shunt, and a timing light, and have followed the procedure outlined in the Volvo information concerning the Delco EST distributors. My timing light does not have the advance feature that new...

    4.3 intake manifold

I have a 2007 4.3 Volvo GL-G carb engine that has a cracked intake manifold. The # on the manifold is 12552422. Are the marine intakes the same as the truck engine intakes? I have already ordered a new long block, and now I need an intake for it. Thanks Dave-R

Cracked heads always = cracked block?

The wife and I picked up a 2007 Four Winns Horizon with a 4.3 GL engine. The owners sold it because the heads have freeze cracks. I planned on getting a new long block when I bought the boat, but after looking at the block real close, the block looks good. I'm wondering if I got a new set of...

    New fuel injection sytem

I bought a 2011 boat that was swamped, and the engine was under water. I planned buying a new 5.7 Volvo long block for it, as the boat is a multi port fuel injected engine now. I'm not sure I can re-use the existing EFI system. I'm thinking maybe the Holley marine fuel injection system. Would I...

    Quality marine gauges

I'm replacing all the boats gauges. What do you think Faria, VDO or Teliflex? They all have ones that will match the dash. Thanks Dave-R

    4.3.GL PBYC fuel pigtail

Have been searching for an hour for the fuel pump electrical pigtail that connects the fuel pump to the relay. It's for a 1999 4.3 GL PBYC with the single low pressure pump, and carb. It felt kind of loose, and left us stranded. Any ideas for a part # or a place to get one ? Thanks Dave-R

    Never again

Yesterday we were boating at Lake Powell up by Rainbow bridge. We thought we would take in one more canyon before we headed back to Antelope point. We got down to the end of Cathedral Canyon, and my Four Winns boat died. Acted like a bad fuel pump. My Son in law was driving it with his family. I...

    Volvo Penta Speedometer

The speedometer on my 1999 Four Winns 18' boat has not worked since I bought the boat last year. I pulled the hose off the pito tube on the transom and blew a little air in the line, and the gauge responded great. On further examination of the pito tube, I found one side was chipped off. Okay...

    Dodged a bullet

On our new to us 1999 Four Winns 180 Horizion, I had wanted to take her fishing very bad. The wife was working on a new bow cover, so I thought what the heck I may just as well repack the hubs. The starboard side when felt hard to turn when taking it off. I thought maybe the brake shoes were...

    Kicker alternator hook-up.

I am installing a Honda 9.9 with electric start on my Four Winns. The Honda has a 12 amp alternator that charges back thru the starting cables. I am planning on mounting these to my main boat battery. Is there a concern about doing this ? I thought it would be great, as when I troll, I use a...

    Carpet by the yard

Is there a place to buy marine carpet with the rubber backing by the yard rather than a custom made package? We have a binder and can install snaps. We went to Lowes, but all they had was outdoor carpet without a rubber backing. If you are gluing down that carpet, it would probably be okay...

    Kicker mount on swim deck.

I have a Four Winns 180 Horizon that I want to install a kicker motor mount on either the swim deck or the transom. Not sure which one would be better than the other. Anyone have Any Ideas I could use. I don't think an electric bow mount would work as I troll for 6 or 7 hrs a day and I remote...

    Boat hatch

Our new to us 1999 Four Winns 180 had a ski pylon installed back by the engine cover. We removed it because we want to use the boat for fishing. It has snap in carpet, and a real good looking white fiberglass floor. The ski pylon plate and holes would need a hatch about 10" in diameter to cover...

    Engineers have to be laughing

I finished my epic job of replacing the trim sender on my Volvo SX drive . Not really finished it, but ready to install the pivot and drive back on. I read a post where Don S. could do these in an hour. It took me that long just to see the wire with a mirror and flashlight. Talk about a lousy...
