Fiberglass storage .... Shelf life ?

I'll check for those closely ... thanks ! Oil, I understand. But if it is, and/or has been wet with water, would that ruin it permanently ? or could it possibly be dried and then used ?

Fiberglass storage .... Shelf life ?

A local has several large rolls of fiberglass cloth for sale. Only spoke on phone, haven't seen it yet. Said he got it from a boat building/repair facility when it closed down several years ago. Not sure yet what weight, or type it is but need to know if there are storage methods, or exposures...

Wood species and type for stringers

When in doubt, go with OEM. That would be straight grained, clear solid wood for primary stringers, plywood for secondary stringers, boxing and horizontal panels/flooring.

Wood species and type for stringers

Thanks, that's good info for the ply, but a 1"x4"x 8' board stringer would be better of solid wood ... would it not ? THAT is the wood I'm interested in using.

Wood species and type for stringers

Hey all. I see all kinds and types of wood used for stringer replacement. What is the basis for choosing ? Most common ? Does it matter much ? My little 92 Bayliner looks to have regular ol 1" pine stringers with ply bulkheads. The SlickCraft has 2 main mahogany stringers, then ply stringers /...

1972 Starcraft Arrow closed bow conversion

You'll probably need a small intermediate step to get up on the deck. Mix some black beauty blasting grit with some paint, or gelcoat, mask off and coat the existing deck for anti skid and just fish from that. That is if, the arch is not too uncomfortable, the ridges /grooves don't bug ya and of...

    Standard Gelcoat Colors

1994 Bayliner Capri. Basic gray bottom gelcoat. Does this color have to be custom blended/mixed to match ? or, are there standardized colors that can be ordered ? Sort of like auto color codes ? Just need a quart for patching / filling a few light gouges. Thanks

    Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

No, my goodness NO. NEVER anything on the axle. You can see the crossmember behind the axle with the bunks and roller mounted. Too close for me too !

    Transom Leak Help

Did your pro mechanic advise against drilling it ? for fear of what you might find ? Mine says it should be drilled to verify. Easy enough to do.

That is good to know ! Thanks Kenny ! This may be for a covert, black ops project. I could tell ya, but I'd have to ...... you know. (smile)

    Motor / Drive Removal ?

Had to free up the tilt clutch to get the upper off, then it came right out. Dang shame I tore it all apart, all the wood was solid ... and in good shape ! (roll eyes, sarcastic grin, wink, wink) Thanks again folks !

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Not saying you, or anyone else is literally denying anything, but it can lead to catastrophic failures while out on the water. Putting the lives and well being of everyone aboard, and those nearby at risk. It doesn't have to be beautiful to look at, but it should be beautifully done. Be safe, Cheers

OMC control from 71 SlickCraft, Dauntless V6

Yes, but I have another project for this control. 2 solenoids for the f & r and the main cable for the throttle. I think I can figure it out and make it work with the switches included. A lot like a standard outboard box but electric shift instead of mechanical. The rack n pinion steering box is...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

I've learned from others mistakes and good advice from this forum. It is a dangerous, and/or expensive phase. Another recent poster seems to have the same affliction.

OMC control from 71 SlickCraft, Dauntless V6

I had to partially disassemble this control in order to get it out of the boat. I do not recall exactly where the levers were mounted to the shafts. The handle shaft has 3 detented positions about 45 degrees ea. near the center of the full travel. Can someone point me to a comprehensive...

    Motor / Drive Removal ?

Hi folks, I need a little guidance here. This 71 SlickCraft, OMC arrangement. 1966, V6. What is the SOP, step by step to remove the motor and the drive ? (aside from hoses/wiring) Doesn't look like it will come out in one piece. Thanks for some direction. side note: I never realized the...
