    Until about 2010 Volvo used to recommend Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90 until they realised that they were missing out on selling their overpriced own labelled stuff. I also use it in gear boxes and transfer cases in my Toyota Landcruiser and Rav4, so buy it in 20ltr drums.

    any tips on replacing the prop shaft seals on a dp-sm outdrive?

    I did much the same, only I made a 45mm hole in a bit of 60 mm flat bar. Put the flat bar over the outer shaft then put the prop nut on and used a 2 leg puller on the flat bar, hardly needed any pulling.

    Same as mine every year after 6 months of dry storage. I just clean it off with a nylon brush on a Dremel. This cap is 10 years old with approx 400 hours. This one is with brass terminals, I had one with alloy terminals which did the same both came from VP dealers.

    Correct, they are the active corrosion system, on my boat they are attached to a black box on the inboard side of the transom. Remove the wire that is permanently live or else you may be causing corrosion on your drive.

    Not sure where you are located, but if it gets below freezing then drain all the cooling water from the block and ancillaries, along with the above recommendations, plenty of advice on this site if you do a search.

    Taff, I have been using a piece of 2"ID pipe that I put 3 slots in, and then screwed into a reducing bush, then 4" of 1" pipe with a 30mm AF nut welded that can then be slacked and tightened with a 30mm socket. a few welds on the pipe threads on the reducing bush allows slacking and tightening...

    Penta 4.3 Overheating

    I second Wave34, similar thing happened to me after an impeller shed some fins. Dry pump overheated and destroyed the seal. I rebuilt it with new seal and bearing for less than $50.
