Did the 77 9.9's have a tell tale, CDI, reed spacers and round exhaust yet ?

Telltale and electronic ignition started in ‘77 on those motors. Reed spacers and tuned exhaust tube for 15hp came later, both were in place in ‘81

1970 25hp deceleration after run at WOT

That’s how they make the caps now.. safety for no fumes in bilge. Cap vent screw only lets air in to replace fuel used.. annoying.

    Can a 1976 15HP carb fit on a 1990 9.9HP Evinrude ?

As stated, that motor is 92 or newer. The 15 carb would fit on a 1990 9.9, but not on 92 and newer.

    1975 Johnson 9.9 running on 1 cylinder

If one cylinder comes and goes, it shouldn’t be the reeds. It could be one of the kill circuit wires randomly connecting to ground under the flywheel. Also could be a coil failing. And as stated, could be spark plugs. I use NGK B7HS spark plugs in those points motors @.030” Good luck!

    Evinrude Mate 2 HP Driveshaft

You could try replacing the driveshaft seal, and not seating it all the way, so sealing surface is above the groove.. this has worked for me in the past. Do a quick pressure test before filling. If really bad, find one at salvage...

1959 Glastron need to find a starter solenoid

I always jump starter motor directly with good jumper cables as a first step. No-go = bad starter. If she cranks normally.. wiring/battery issue. If you get full voltage at starter in start mode, safety switch is not the issue. I would still perform the jumper cable test with known/good...

    starter solenoid

One of the small terminals on solenoid gets 12v when switch is in start position. Other small terminal must be grounded to block for solenoid to operate. That ground may go through a neutral safety switch (follow wire..on opposite side of powerhead). That switch may be faulty/out of...

9.5 johnson outboard 1965 back fire

It is difficult to clean the low speed chamber on that particular carb (behind Welch plug). In fact, I never figured out how, as there is a plastic piece in there.. Anyway, sounds there’s crud in there. I have successfully cleared a bunch of ‘em using the following method. Drain carb. Air up...

    1975 Evinrude 25

If you have an original metal tank, you could have a bad o-ring in the tank coupler..behind one of the ‘pins’. I test those tanks by hooking 2” of clear hose to a good hose coupler, connect to tank, and slowly suck on the clear tube.. if bubbles come up with the fuel, that’s your leak,

    Evinrude 9.9 over heating

With cylinder head off, blow air up the copper water tube while covering indicator nipple with your finger. If no/little air restriction, upper watertube grommet is not clogged. An overheat event can melt that grommet and restrict flow.. powerhead removal required to change it out. You’ll...
