Do over the range microwaves use standard hardware?

Our over the range microwave just died. Really sucks because it was only 4 years old. It's a GE and I was wondering if I bought a Hotpoint or something like that if I could just pop it in using the existing plate that's mounted to the wall? I'm assuming the screw holes in the cabinet will be...

'73 Johnson 85 stalls at idle/low speed, hard to restart

Well I was hoping I wouldn't have to post in this forum for a while :( but I had some problems last night I need to address. As stated in the title I have a '73 Johnson 85. It was "awakened" 4 years ago after being laid up for many years. At that time we had all new coils, plugs, power pack...

Hey mods, what has to happen to get projects into the Completed Projects archive?

Do the actual posters have to request it or can we nominate them? These have to get in there: stevewolverton's '61 Larson Tail_Gunner's Wellcraft lundnisswa's Lund contractorguy's swim platform

    Couple dumb car questions

I went to get my oil changed last night at Firestone because I had a coupon for an $18.99 change. Unfortunately they were backed up and said it would be a couple hours before they got to me. So I already had it in my head that I wasn't going to be paying $30 for an oil change so I went across...

Do I need this? (Transom question)

I'm replacing my transom and I have a plate on the outside of my boat that goes between the motor bracket and the hull. It's made out of 1/2" ply. Do I need to have that? I see plenty of boats that don't. The pic below is not of my boat but it's what I'm talking about.

What to use to fill holes in aluminum boat?

I'm going to have a number of holes in the outer aluminum skin of my boat once my new transom is installed. What should I use to fill them in? The holes will be backed by the new sealed transom so they won't go all the way through. It looks like Marine-Tex will work for this. Sound good?

What to seal my new transom wood with? (other than epoxy)

I know epoxy is the official iboats sealer of choice however I'm not looking for a 20 year solution and would like to avoid the cost and inconvenience of dealing with epoxy. What the second best choice?

Aluminum boat transom replacement progress and questions

I'm knee deep in replacing the transom on my '66 Starcraft. I have the motor off and everything else that was mounted to the transom. Lots of bolt cutting. Here's the motor hanging in my garage and my chaotic workspace Here's my transom with everything removed. Here's the token picture of...

In the market for a new string trimmer

I'm looking to buy a new 2 cycle string trimmer. Who makes the best one? I'm thinking Echo but I'm not sure. I have no interest in any crazy attachments or anything like that. Also, what's the difference between a curved shaft and a straight shaft (besides the obvious)? Is there an advantage to...

    Aluminum boat transom replacement

Ok, I've done a lot of reading on here and I'm ready to replace the transom on my Starcraft. I'm going with exterior plywood and sealing it with polyester resin. At HD/Lowes what is the exact name of the type of plywood I want? I think the transom is about an inch to an inch and half in...

Chrysler 9.9 coils. Where to buy?

My uncle has a Chrysler 9.9 that he stupidly bought on craigslist and it isn't running. Apparently he took it to a mechanic who told him it needed new coils but the price for the parts was very high. I think it was in the hundreds. He decided it wasn't worth it and brought it home. Meanwhile...

Nice to see the forum buzzing again

Well spring must be in the air because the forum is really buzzing again. Some nice projects going on in Restoration and apparently everyone is dusting off their J/E motors. I'm going a wait a few more weeks before pulling my boat out of storage and starting on the transom. I also want to do...

    My car's fading A/C

I have a 2000 Buick Regal and my air conditioning isn't working up to snuff. Really hasn't been too great all summer. The problem is that is does work. It eventually gets quite cold. Cold enough that I sometimes even turn it down a bit. However, my problem is that is takes forever to get cold...

    My winter project - transom

Well I just wanted to complain about the job I am going to finally tackle this winter. Replacing my transom. I have gone to GREAT LENGTHS to avoid doing this job and have succeeded in getting 3 full seasons of use out of my boat with its disintegrating hind end. But the time has come to break...

    Lake Clarke / Susquehanna

Anybody boat on the Lake Clarke stretch of the river? I normally boat and store my boat down at Conowingo but I live in York. I've brought my boat home for the season (new baby coming soon :)) and was thinking of taking it out on Lake Clarke one night after work if I get the chance. What do I...

    '73 Johnson 85 hard to re-start when semi-warm

My Johnson 85 is fairly easy to start when cold. It starts immediately when warm. The problem is when it's been sitting for about an hour or so. Then is it very difficult to start. It will usually fire once, just enough to disengage the starter but not start. I end up having to try up to 10-15...

Evinrude 4 HP Deluxe recoil starter

I have a late 80's/early 90's Evinrude 4 HP deluxe and my recoil starter has sprung. I've had bad experiences in the past trying to mess with these things. Is it possible to just replace the whole starter unit? If so where could I buy that?

    Adding tilt/trim

I think I am soon finally going to be able to get my hands on an OEM tilt and trim unit for my '73 Johnson 85. Besides the complete unit (motor, rams, mounting brackets) what else will I need to make this operational?

tilt and trim questions '73 Johnson V4

I am desperately trying to find a complete tilt/trim unit for my '73 Johnson 85. Certain limitations with my boat make the CMC type aftermarket units undesireable as I really can't do with the 6" or more setback. So we all know that there is one type of unit used from ?-'78 with the rams on the...
