    Need help with my prop

Agree with the above, 85+ hp minimum for 4 people in a 18 SC aluminum pulling tubes and all. My 18 Starchief topped out at 32 on a lucky day with an 85 and 3 people. My significantly lighter 16 ft SC supersport was good with 70 but also you could tell wanted its rated 85 with more than 2 or 3...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

That sums up the last 7 days of work on it. Going to soak pistons in ATF, clean rest of it, and do rebuild really soon hopefully. Have the parts just sitting in a box. On a lighter note, I'm trying to decide what color to paint the block a d whatnot once it's done...🤔 I don't think I want to do...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

Working away on the Adventurer again finally. Port side cabin wall, untrimmed kitchen vent pipe protruding. Thinking this was a spot light base. Has a broken off ball joint socket in it. Windshield foundation/tracks

    Question for Starcraft Chieftain owners

I have a Chieftain 25 that even though it hasn't touched the water I've already spent Loads of time in it the past 2 years.. 😅 It can get pretty damn hot when closed up but that's mainly bc of the awesome huge windows I think. It's like a greenhouse when sealed up in there! I've spent countless...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

More critical parts for the Adventurer: Crusader big block heat exchanger and Johnson F6B9 raw water pump have both been acquired. This will be cooling the engine and the new PCM (Pleasure Craft Marine) exhaust manifolds. Still need to figure out what risers I'll be running. Pump lines up with...

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

HX acquired. It was supposed to be from a big block Crusader. Stark differences from the other one I sourced. This thing weighs in at a beefy 44 lbs! Hoping this with the F6B9 feeding it will be more than enough to keep my 302 nice and cool. 😎

    Bellows adhesive or not?

Weird that it's not on the jar 🤔 guessing #3 is just the old name, like the #9 at D'Angelo's

    Bellows adhesive or not?

Got the same stuff, very nice to have around, works great for specialty things like this. It's a nasty goo but it is the real deal and very easy to take apart down the road. Turns to sap like consistency over time but non hardening. Here's what it looks like in the wild, one this size goes a...

    Bellows adhesive or not?

I'm no outdrive expert but I am not aware of an inspection port or drain for the drive bellows on a Mercruiser. Basically if the water gets in there, the damage is already done is the way I look at it. The u joint is just basic automotive stuff and will rust up immediately if run in any salt...

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

I saw this one at the consignment that says it's for a 454. Looks like a seakamp maybe? Has the built in surge tank and plumbing that I believe splits the raw water outlet into 2 for the risers. Thinking if this measures in at ~ 5 x 21 it just might be the ticket.

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Bad news on the heat exchanger I have... It's only 4" diameter by 27" long so it must've been a half system HX. 😒 I'll need to source a good deal on a larger used HX for this full system.

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Oh I'm not using that damper, it was from the old engine that was left to the weather for 15-20 yrs and looks terrible like you said.. Plan to use the one that is on the engine already and hoping to fit the old v belt pulley onto it, replacing the serpentine pulley. I like the idea of the...

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Now I'll need to figure out my harmonic balancer and pulley combination that will work with this pump and my v belt marine alternator and circulator pump. The newer engine has a different imbalance so I can't run the Merc 188 part as is. Newer engine has a serpentine drive pulley on the blanacer...

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Wow, thanks for the awesome detailed writeup on how to set this up, I really appreciate it. I can picture what your saying here. I am going to draw up a rough sketch of the proposed plan before I build it so I don't screw up the flow design and waste expensive hoses. Just got the F6 pump in this AM.

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Experience is definitely a big plus. That capacity ratio is just what I needed to know, thanks! Definitely don't want an udersized exp tank.. Imagine it would boil over and/or blow a line or something pretty quick. Slightly oversized a bad thing? I have plenty of room. I am planning to run a...

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Haven't decided where to mount it yet but good to know that on the wall is a good option. I do prefer keeping the motor as uncluttered as possible so mounting coolant res on the bulkhead would be sweet.

Crank driven vs block mounted raw water pump pros/cons

Anyone here plumb in a separate expansion tank before? My heat exchanger is very simple and does not have one built in. Prob have to make it myself so I have a rad cap and an overflow tank. Never seen one before so hoping to find a pic of a setup like that to emulate.
