    Out drive water flow incorrect?

its normal. If you look in where the water is coming out behind shift lever, there is a 1/4” hole. There should be a clip that holds the speedo tube in it. With drive up this is open to exhaust cavity which is where the wate4 is coming from

How much water pressure is too much, for running on the hose?

you must be close to the water tower. Do you get water hammer when the washing machine valve closes? Newer construction will have a reducing station in the house, but what you mention is pretty typical for public water. the 3 homes we have owned on city water have all had 75-90 psi .

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - leak & transom service questions

if the Y pipe was leaking and you stick a hose in bellhousing the water should go through the engine and leak out the Y pipe, engine running or not. I think the places above the Y pipe that could leak are driveshaft bellows, water in pipe fitting, steering shaft seal. Not sure if shift bellows...

    No Spark – 1998 MerCruiser 5.7L Thunderbolt V Ignition

A lot of folks will use a Delco EST to replace the complete TB system when the module dies due to TB module cost/ lack of availability. The Delco is an OEM quality system and modules when they die are cheaper, although we have seen folks on here getting bad EST modules or having trouble putting...

    No Spark – 1998 MerCruiser 5.7L Thunderbolt V Ignition

in addition to testing above. A bravo module is not made to work with a shift interrupt, so i dont think it will go out of gear. I test ran my engine when I repowered with a bravo module (alpha set up as well. If I recall it worked with the bravo module with the shift interrupt wires from the...

Should I use a kicker when trolling in a 4.3L Mercruiser?

you are already on the lower side of pitch with a 17". the only thing you may want to keep an eye on is wear on the coupler, you can actually get more wear on the splines trolling as the solines load and unload due to wave action. Not saying this is a deal breaker just something to keep an eye...

The easiest and most precise way to install a gimbal bearing

if they are beating on it the bearing is most likely cocked in the transom housing. Going in or out it shouldn't take that much force. The tolerance ring on the outside crushes a bit to hold it but shouldn't need anything than a good sized hammer to drive it in. Use the OEM bellows for...

    Stalling, sudden low idle.

negative side of coil sends signal to tach. Some mercs will have two grey wires on negative side of coil- one for tach one for ignition module. You can take off the one going to the the tach. Others will have only one wire that splits in the harness and and goes to Ignition module and tach, in...

Aftermarket Mercruiser parts, What are you using???

Use the OEM quicksilver/mercruiser. The originals on my biat lasted 18 years, why screw with anything else. They will fit and last. Get a factory manual for your OD as it takes you through the job step by step

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

Agreed. My buddies boat had bogging issues this summer. Two years ago he was having this when pulling skiiers,I rebuilt the carb no issue for 2 summers, this year got progressively worse. we start working on it dump the fuel filter into a jar and in 5 mins it is a milky cloudy mess. was...

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

It (carb) will dry out just sitting there. I put stabil in my tank starting Labor Day so it pulls through the system. I do this with both my boat (carb/ ethanol Free) and jetski (injected/ E10) never had an issue fuel wise with either, nor seen any chit in the fuel filters. Generally I fog but...

Running New Style Merc 6.2L DTS on a Pallet ???

If you have to remove the DTS rigging anyways that would be easiest to run it out of the boat. Or are you keeping it for use with merc outboards? or does it not work that easy...

    Gm 4.3 blocks

the 090M (m for metric) has metric fasteners on the starter, flywheel cover, and side motor mount holes. Don't ask me why GM mixed metric and SAE on the same block I swapped a 090M 4.3 in my boat for a 5.0 that has all SAE fasteners- was no big deal about $45 worth of bolts. All the accessory...
