    MC-1 shift cable threading stripped

Ah interesting! Thanks. Just to make sure I'm reading this right, a press fit + loctite is enough to keep it secure in there? Thanks again

    MC-1 shift cable threading stripped

Hello, I have an MC1 that has been giving me some real problems. Now, I'm putting it all back together and I'm trying to install my shift cable but that part of the bell housing is a bit corroded. The tapped section where you'd screw the shift cable in is corroded and the shift cable isn't...

Options for adding floatation to 13' aluminum dinghy/rowboat?

thanks. No foam in there as of now. You think that just three seats with expanding foam (Great Stuff or similar) is enough to keep a 13' dinghy afloat basically no matter what? If I just fill to the bottom of the seat and then shave off the excess foam so it's flush? Thanks

Options for adding floatation to 13' aluminum dinghy/rowboat?

Hello, all! I recently picked up a 13' just bare aluminum dinghy/rowboat thing.... very basic, no frills, just a hull and some bench seats. I'm looking to add some floatation to this little guy on the off chance it get swamped or otherwise sinks. It would be a real hassle if it ended up on the...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

Hi all, I've been checking around with Marine parts places and I'm really not seeing anything under $850. I called the NLA marine that @Campfire mentioned and they have a few for about that price, maybe a little over (although I see why you like them, they are great to interact with). I guess...

Replacement Cap for Older Leafield A7 Valves? (old avons, etc.)

Ah, thanks! I saw those but I'm looking for an A7 cap, but they don't seem to have A7s. Do other caps fit on A7 valves? If so, this is perfect!

Replacement Cap for Older Leafield A7 Valves? (old avons, etc.)

Thanks! I checked defender but couldn't find the individual caps... i just see whole valves that I noted in the original post. Would you mind pointing me to the caps? Internet searching apparently isn't my strength, ha :) Thank you!

Replacement Cap for Older Leafield A7 Valves? (old avons, etc.)

Hello, I have some old Leafield A7 valves and I'm missing the cap for one of them. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good source for replacement caps, as I have been unable to find anything online. I've found a couple of complete replacement valves, but I'd rather just buy the cap, if...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

Thanks, everyone, for the input. @achris I'm a little confused (sorry!). I had kind of though that you said that an "early" MC-1 (like I have) won't fit anything later than 1975, and then I thought that a later post said that any drive up until 1990 will fit. Am I reading these properly? I'm...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

OK... thanks... have some thinking to do. I may want to replace like for like while I hunt down the proper re-power motor/outdrive (who makes the 4.3, is that still a GM or is it mercruiser?). Just to get me back on the water... does this look like the right drive...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

Hi Chris, First, thank you for all the information you've provided so far, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. My motor is a 165hp GM Inline-6 from the late 60s. so if I'm understanding properly, I can get any gimbal housing up until about 1975 and it should be compatible with my...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

wow... guess I'm not shocked, it seems like it might be a mashup of parts :) I definitely did ask about a clip holding the gimbal bearing in, but after showing some photos, the conclusion was that there is not a clip in there. But there is a groove for a clip, if that helps narrow down the...

Thank you. Here is an album with the whole outdrive and then photos of the gimbal housing, etc with the drive part off. It must be a replacement... I don't see numbers! Album with images: https://app.photobucket.com/u/wxkl/a/bf7bb0ef-71bc-48f9-9248-8daa499d1428 Thanks :)

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

@Alumarine @achris thank you! I'm sure those photos will help... no idea why I'm not seeing the photos. Just curious... are the serial numbers carved/stamped into the metal, or are they actually on the decals? Because I'm not seeing anything in any of those locations. I see that there used...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

Well... I have it down to the transom plate right now, and I'm putting it back together and basically replacing anything and everything that I can find as I go and as things look old/corroded... so I'm not 100% sure what I'll end up needing, but I know I'll be needing parts (at least things like...
