    I figured this out, but don't see how to delete this post. The plug I removed on the Port side is not the correct plug. Not sure what this plug is for. The correct plug for checking oil level is behind the plastic cover on the back end of the drive.

    Oil level too high?

    Yes, you are sucking oil out of the drain pan hole, but, as soon as you get close to empty, you start to pull air up the tube, and that loss of suction leaves some oil in the pan. I agree with the estimate of approx 1/2 quart left in pan when pumping it up the dipstick tube.

    I wish I could use that type of kit, but there is no other provision for having a dipstick. It is installed by banjo bolt to the oil plug. Unless there is a drain-line kit that takes this into account?

    Update: Removed the banjo fitting at bottom of dipstick to drain oil, and got little over 5.5 qts out. I had never added more than 5 qts when changing oil by sucking up the dipstick tube.     I've been noticing similar thing on my 4.3L. Dipstick has threaded hose coupling at top, and I connect a drill-powered pump to it to drain. Dipstick always reads high. Dipstick connects to oilpan drain port through a "banjo" fitting at bottom of stick. Next time I am going to crawl down there...

    How to check the tachomoter for correct RPM reading?

    1996 Volvo-penta 4.3L GS on SX cobra drive. It seems like RPM's on tach are higher than actual rpm's. It used to run approx 30mph at 3000RPM, 40mph at 4200rpm (these are approx as it varies with load, trim, wind etc). Now when tach shows 4200 RPM, I'm running about 30mph. Prop looks fine...

    Volvo SX Cobra exhaust port / bellows?

    4.3L VolvoPenta SX Cobra outdrive. Running with water hose / muffs while winterizing. I noticed all the water is exiting between hull and outdrive. I thought some, or all should be coming out the middle of the prop with the exhaust. Is this OK, or What do I need to check??
