Re: 1976 1500 cylinder going?
Here's an updated pic from Cylinder #1 after running it today:
I did not see the "C" cast into the block anywhere. Might it be in an area that is not visible with all the framing in place?
Anyway... it ran great on the lake today. As I said I backed off the...
HI all. Got another issue on my 150hp monster. This has happened twice now at high speeds I lose a cylinder. Engine RPM above 5K. Yesterday it was about 5400rpm when it happened. It seems to be "fouling" a plug with aluminum which I know is not good at all. Quest I have "is there a way to save...
I have a 1976 1500 that I just noticed is not pushing any exhaust out the prop at idle or all the way up to about 16-1700 rpm. Is this normal from these? I thought it was pushing exhaust bubbles out the prop before but I'm not 100% certain.
This motor runs pretty good now throughout the rpm...
Hi all again. Thanks everyone for helping me out before. I'm using the boat almost daily with very little issue. Here is one more I need help with:
Most of the time I run slow through no wake zone for a period of time (about 1200rpm or so for 3-5 minutes or more) when I get through it and go to...
Re: 1976 Merc 1500 Dead in the water!!! Help please!
AS you can see there is not verification of the SN on the motor. The swivel bracket SN is for a 1976 1500.

HI All. I have a 1977 Sea Ray I'm reviving from a cracked block a few years ago. Originally it was powered with a 305 chevy and I purchased a 1968 327 engine from which I'm using the block, pistons and rods. I'm going to put the crank from the 305 in the 327 block which will essentially make it...
:grumpy:
I have a 1976 Merc 1500 that seems to be alergic to water. I purchased a manual and tried all of the following:
1. Compression 125 on all cylinders
2. Spark Plugs correct
3. Carbs cleaned and floats checked and set
4. Fuel pump rebuilt
5. Link n Sync performed multiple times myself
6...
What's the best way to ensure the stator is working properly on these vintage outboards? there is no regulator so it doesnt follow conventional voltage patterns.
I'd like to think there is a quick and easy verification it is charging. My manual has been ordered however it's still a few days...
I had to dissassemble the whole pump system on my 1976 1500 PT&T unit. It was full of gunk and now it's all fresh and clean, however guess what... it doesn't pump. It's back together the same as it was prior however I cannot get it to pump anything. I've tried breaking lines loose and pulling...
Hi all. I have a 1977 SeaRay V197 with a 305 that has a cracked block. I've purchased a 1964 327 with Fuelie heads (which I do not intend to use) that I plan on installing in place of the 305. Currently the outdrive and motor have been removed and I'm starting to determine what all I need to to...
