    For the age of the boat, your expected time with the boat and your apparen desire to do it right, stay with plywood and juat do it correctly.

    Cable cuts flesh in a couple years. The last 8" of fabric strap is the only part that is exposed to the sun long enough to degrade. When it breaks and it always will just cut and extra few inches off and tie back to the hook.

    Also check from center of ball to the ends of the trailer on both sides. If equal, frame is good. Then check springs measurement

    What state do you live in and yeah get rid of the crap. If you can pull it to a welding shop you want to sleeve on to the lower portion. The shop and tell you servicability condition of the whole thing. I don't like surge brakes, replace if needed. Here in TN it's 1500 lbs but have never...
