Can I restore, or replace my speedo/tach/odometer display?

Hey guys, I rescued a beautiful '96 four winns 170 horizon fish and ski, last spring, she had been lovingly taken care of for 15 years (used 2 weeks every summer then stored) and then neglected by her new owners for the next 5 years, before I bought it. During those 5 years, a tree had fallen...

Anybody got plans for those old wooden raceboats?

When I was a young kid, my uncle had these little wooden speed boats he had built out of plywood, and put a 9.9hp on them. They had a steerign wheel too. I've seen them home-built with up to 25hp. The gas can sat behind me, and they were a hoot! Can probably build and power it with a beater...

How the heck do I open my light casing?

I spent an hour on this already, and since I'm not going to be boating for another 2 weeks or so due to work, I figure, why break it, let's ask you guys! :) I took some photos. At first I thought if I removed 2 bolts that suspend the trailer plate, it would come off. First bolt snapped off...

    All about fishing Knots.

I was reading another thread last night here on whether you tie onto the lure, or if you use leaders, or swivel clasps, etc.... and a few people also chimed in what knot they used.. the thread was 2 years old, and rather than revive it, I am beginning a new one, with a different twist. Pun...

    Fishing Rod Repair

Last week, I placed my beloved 20 year old Shimano rod on the passenger seat of my boat, and placed the tip near the stern. Set off to cross a lake that was now getting increasingly rough... to return to where I had launched. After I weighed anchor, and grabbed my rod, I discovered my tip had...

How to save my transmission on the ramp?

I launch solo, and the new ramp I use is pretty steep. After I back down till the transom is in the water, I put my truck in park you can feel the vehicle roll down a bit as I let go of the brake.. I get out, I unhook the bow chain - and unclip the winch. Hand the bow line to the marina...

Long Weekend here, and can't launch. No water!

Today was the day! First day towing with new vehicle First launch of the year. Our lake is unseasonably low. (Lake Nipissing, Ontario) and it is 2.5 feet below the norm. Some people have been launching at this spot (and it is where I launched last year) This is a photo from last year.... as...

Sealegs Boat Brand - cool video to see

This company Sealegs, has not been discussed here since 2004. A buddy sent me this video, and it's pretty cool. Thought I'd share it anyway.... I don't think too many of us would pay the asking price for these things, but they are well suited for their purpose with fire and rescue, or military...

Buying the Receiver hitch for nwe tow vehicle

So I went to Canadian tire to get a new receiver to go into the back of my new GMC Envoy. I then noticed they have them in "drops" of 2 1/2" 3 1/2" 5 1/2" etc.... I think it's a class III hitch (it's about 2 1/4" square - my old receiver just goes in, like tossing a hot dog down a hallway)...

    Bimini Sizing and Installation

Hey guys, Waited all winter to get under my tarp to double check measurements for a bimini against iboats - vessel is 1999 Princecraft Pro Series 166. (I sent an email to iboats with my question - but also want some feedback..) I have a rail mounted inside for the convertible cover. I guess...

    Mid/Small SUV Recommendation under $8k

Had no intention of buying a new vehicle until later this fall - except some woman chatty on her phone, didn't pay attention to her driving, and caused a frotn end collision to my 2000 Caravan. Insurance wrote it off... I'm hoping to upgrade by 2-4 years. Insurance gave me $4800 to replace...

*Great Video* - Good Run: A Boating Story

This is an awesome video. I think it captures many people's memories of growing up boating.... Enjoy! (sorry if somebody else ever posted it... I did a search on obvious keywords, and way too many results.....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeE92WVe_so

Buying a kicker engine, and some questions

I was thinking of buying a kicker motor, cause our lake is 45 miles long, and 16 miles across. (340 sq/miles) - I really don't want to get stranded for obvious reasons. I don't understand if I need a long shaft or short shaft. I spoke to a marine mechanic last month, who said Long. But if I...

Trolling motors (how many LB thrust needed) and using it

My boat was originally fitted with a trolling motor, there's a jack on the fron for it to plug into, and a space in the bow storage for a battery, with the terminal cables there.. Previous owner removed the trlling motor. I was thinking of getting one over the winter, and recently checked out...

How did my mechanic repair my skeg?

I had a nasty chip out of my skeg, about 1" worth, and my skeg was all wobbly.... when I had the engine winterized, I asked him to see if he could straighten it.. $20 later - my skeg is like new (aside from needing a little touchup paint....) How did he do it? Must have manually straightened...
