    no he didnt , he said he had the meter set to dc whilst testing an ac output , easy mistake , and with a faulty stator who know what the meter could say .......might have been mv , another easy mistake on an auto ranging meter :)

One of the things that makes a good mechanic ( or any repair man ) is the ability to diagnose the problem and one advantage a multicylinder motor has over a single banger is the immediate proximity and availability of substitute parts for diagnostic purposes ....by all means swap things...

    Yes but the spark would be in the wrong place but if you then get spark on #2 coil it would indicate that the cdi was crook

    yeah Im not big on joining safety chains ........for the length involved Id go new.

    there should be 3 yellow wires .... these are the 3 phases from the alt and should go to the reg / rect you replaced . resistance should be between 0.1 ohm and 1 ohm between any two yellows ( check them all ) and open circuit between any yellow to ground .

    yeah , we get them here too .... same guys that have their skis or surf board bolted to their roof rack ( they swap them over depending on the season ). A guy up the road has a Hilux that has all the crap on it and lifted so high its damn near undrivable ....and the noise off the tires on...
